Nuclear Fuel in a Reactor Accident
Science, 2012Mechanics of a Meltdown For all the potential hazards presented by nuclear power plants, there have been very few incidents that have caused human or environmental harm. However, those that have happened have often had disastrous consequences, for example, the accidents at Chernobyl in Ukraine and, just last year, at Fukushima ...

Nuclear Fuel and the Nuclear Resource
2017The fuel for nuclear power plants is usually uranium although plutonium, which is often generated in nuclear reactors, can also provide fuel for a power plant. Thorium, another naturally occurring element, is not fissile itself but can be turned into fissile uranium in a nuclear reactor.

On the Optimization of the Fuel Distribution in a Nuclear Reactor
SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 2004Summary: We give an optimality condition for the optimization problem of the distribution of fuel assemblies in a nuclear reactor by using the homogenization method. This study deals with purely fissile fuels and is based on the neutron transport equation modeling for continuous models.
