Weighted Nuclear Norm Minimization with Application to Image Denoising [PDF]

open access: yes2014 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2014
As a convex relaxation of the low rank matrix factorization problem, the nuclear norm minimization has been attracting significant research interest in recent years. The standard nuclear norm minimization regularizes each singular value equally to pursue the convexity of the objective function.

Interference alignment using reweighted nuclear norm minimization [PDF]

open access: yes2013 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, 2013
This paper proposes an algorithm to compute the transmit beamformers for linear interference alignment for the MIMO interference channel and the MIMO interfering multiple-access/broadcast channel without symbol extensions. We first formulate the interference alignment problem as a rank minimization problem with linear constraints, then approximate the ...

Fast randomized Singular Value Thresholding for Nuclear Norm Minimization [PDF]

open access: yes2015 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), 2015
Rank minimization problem can be boiled down to either Nuclear Norm Minimization (NNM) or Weighted NNM (WNNM) problem. The problems related to NNM (or WNNM) can be solved iteratively by applying a closed-form proximal operator, called Singular Value Thresholding (SVT) (or Weighted SVT), but they suffer from high computational cost to compute a Singular

Denoising for Low-Dose CT Image by Discriminative Weighted Nuclear Norm Minimization

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) is an effective approach to reduce radiation exposure to patients. Lots of mottle noise and streak artifacts, however, are introduced to the reconstructed image.

Extracting Seasonal Signals in GNSS Coordinate Time Series via Weighted Nuclear Norm Minimization

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) coordinate time series contains obvious seasonal signals, which mainly manifest as a superposition of annual and semi-annual oscillations.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

On the Convex Geometry of Weighted Nuclear Norm Minimization

open access: yesCoRR, 2016
Low-rank matrix approximation, which aims to construct a low-rank matrix from an observation, has received much attention recently. An efficient method to solve this problem is to convert the problem of rank minimization into a nuclear norm minimization problem.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

s-Goodness for Low-Rank Matrix Recovery

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2013
Low-rank matrix recovery (LMR) is a rank minimization problem subject to linear equality constraints, and it arises in many fields such as signal and image processing, statistics, computer vision, and system identification and control.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
