Adaptive undervoltage protection scheme for safety bus in nuclear power plants

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2022
In the event of a short-circuit accident on a 4.16 kV non-safety bus, the voltage is temporarily lowered as backflow occurs on the safety bus. In such cases, the undervoltage relay of the safety bus shall not pick up the undervoltage so as not to ...

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Review of the Requirements for Load Following of Small Modular Reactors

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
CO2 net neutralization by 2050 is a global target. Renewable energy and nuclear power generation are emerging as major power sources for CO2 net neutralization.

Economics of nuclear energy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
While few people now believe that nuclear power would provide ‘power too cheap to meter’, there is still a common perception that nuclear power is a cheap source of electricity.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Quantitative Assessment of Gaseous Effluents during Routine Operation: A Comparative Study of Planned Nuclear Power Plants at Lubiatowo-Kopalino and Pątnów Sites in Poland

open access: yesScience and Technology of Nuclear Installations
On September 2021, Polish government declared that six pressurized water reactors with combined capacity of 6–9 GWe will be built by 2040 to reduce Poland’s reliance on coal. Due to the adopted schedule, construction of the first nuclear power plant will

New generation first-of-the kind unit – VVER-1200 design features

open access: yesNuclear Energy and Technology, 2017
The paper is concerned with the commissioning of the new generation NPP-2006 power unit with the VVER-1200 reactor. A comparison is made between the characteristics of the new NvNPP II-1 and commercial VVER-1000 power units (B-320).

Protection Coordination Index Assessment Using Fuzzy Logic Controller

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
This paper proposes the assessment method of the protection coordination index (PCI) for overcurrent protection relay and upstream relay. The protection coordination index is an indicator of how properly the equipment is protected by protective relay ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Studies on the correlation between irradiation hardening and thermal conductivity of RPV steel irradiated with protons

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Reactor pressure vessel (RPV) is a critical safety component in nuclear power plants, and irradiation embrittlement induced by hardening is its primary safety challenge.
