MILITARY NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS [PDF]

open access: yes, 1964
Abstract : This report was designed primarily to assist both Air Force planning groups and civil engineering functions in the proper adaptation of nuclear power to satisfy their requirements. Air Force, Army, and AEC interrelationships within the nuclear power program are discussed along with development and procurement procedures.

Bioengineering facets of the tumor microenvironment in 3D tumor models: insights into cellular, biophysical and biochemical interactions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

A framework for the selection of the right nuclear power plant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Civil nuclear reactors are used for the production of electrical energy. In the nuclear industry vendors propose several nuclear reactor designs with a size from 35–45 MWe up to 1600–1700 MWe.

Gut alterations in a chronic kidney disease rat model with diet‐induced vascular calcification

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients often suffer from intestinal and/or mineral and bone disorders. Using a rat model, we showed that uremic vascular calcification is associated with gut barrier alterations (decreased gut mucus production and Nlrp6 gene expression, increased gut inflammation), and plasma retention of gut‐origin uremic toxins (indoxyl

Dynamic Multiphysics Simulation of the Load-Following Behavior in a Typical Pressurized Water Reactor Power Plant

open access: yesEnergies
Most Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) are designed for baseload operations, maintaining a steady power output at 100%, except during planned maintenance and refueling.

Iron‐dependent lysosomal LDL oxidation induces the expression of scavenger receptor A in human THP‐1 monocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In human monocytic cells THP‐1, a limited uptake of native—not oxidized—LDL/VLDL induced expression of scavenger receptor A and cellular adhesion. Induction was inhibited by lysosomotropic (WR‐1065) and lipophilic (BHT) antioxidants and by siRNAs against ferritinophagy.
