Infrared thermometry study of nanofluid pool boiling phenomena

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2011
Infrared thermometry was used to obtain first-of-a-kind, time- and space-resolved data for pool boiling phenomena in water-based nanofluids with diamond and silica nanoparticles at low concentration (<0.1 vol.%).

Ratiometric Mycotoxin Detection in Living Plants With Dual‐Emissive Nanosensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A minimally invasive microneedle patch integrates carbon dot‐embedded metal–organic frameworks as nanosensors to detect a key fungal toxin in living plants. The nanosensor produces a ratiometric fluorescence signal that enables early, non‐destructive diagnosis of fungal infection before visible symptoms, offering a new biomaterials‐based strategy for ...

Boolean Logic‐Based Control Over Recombinant Protein Biomaterial Degradability and Therapeutic Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Fully recombinant protein‐based biomaterials execute complex Boolean logic for user‐programmable material degradation and concomitant therapeutic cargo release. Biologics, such as growth factors, can be incorporated within the crosslinkers as “drugamers”, while encapsulated cells can be released according to nested YES/OR/AND‐type logical operations ...

Experimental investigation into thermal characteristics of subcooled flow boiling in horizontal concentric annuli for cooling ultra-fast electric vehicle charging cables

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
In an effort to reduce the charging time of electric vehicles (EVs), the thermal management of the charging system has emerged as one of the most urgent issues.

Characteristics of boiling curve in transition region between nucleate boiling and film boiling

open access: yesHeat Transfer—Asian Research, 2005
An experimental study has been carried out for estimating surface temperature and heat flux during a transient heating process from nucleate boiling to film boiling and a inverse process including nucleate boiling region at atmospheric pressure using newly developed inverse solution.

Flax Composites With Improved Interfacial Strength Through Microbially Induced Mineral Precipitation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A bio‐inspired biomineralization strategy introduces an additional hierarchy to flax fiber composites. By controlling microbe‐mediated mineral particle deposition through tuned salt concentrations, stress transfer within the natural fiber composite is enhanced.

Transient flow boiling in a semi-annular duct: From the Onset of Nucleate Boiling to the Fully Developed Nucleate Boiling

open access: yesInternational Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2019
This paper presents an investigation of the transient Onset of Nucleate Boiling (ONB) on a vertical heated surface cooled by an upward flow. The duct geometry used (semi-annulus with a heated inner wall) make this study very similar to a fuel rod in a Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR).

Dynamic Mechanical Loading Modulates Extracellular Vesicle Production and Cargo in Meniscus Fibrochondrocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Dynamic mechanical loading of outer meniscus fibrochondrocytes increases extracellular vesicle (EV) yield and alters EV composition. When applied to progenitor cells, these mechanically primed EVs modulate the expression of matrix‐related genes.
