Nucleate Pool Boiling over Vertical Steps

Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer, 1999
Nucleate subcooled pool boiling of water over vertical steps was carried out under atmospheric conditions. Two forward-facing steps of 0.8125 and 0.50 in. were considered. Data were statistically analyzed to determine samplingerror.Theebullitionwasqualitativelyexplainedintermsofthermal/e owe eldsandbubbledynamics.Plots of boiling heat e ux vs superheat

The microlayer in nucleate pool boiling

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1969
Abstract Experiments are reported in which organic liquids underwent pool boiling at low pressure, forming large vapour bubbles on the surface of a heater plate consisting of glass or ceramic. The temperature at the surface of the heater was measured, leading to support for the hypothesis that a thin layer of liquid (the microlayer) forms beneath the

CONVECTIVE CURRENTS IN NUCLEATE POOL BOILING

Chemical Engineering Communications, 1982
Abstract An experimental investigation was conducted to examine the effects of convection currents in nucleate pool boiling and to determine the changes in critical heat flux caused by varying the diameter of horizontal flat plate heating surfaces. Trichlorotrifluoroethane (Freon 113) was boiled from flat circular copper surfaces at one atmosphere ...

Mechanism for Nucleation Jet Enhancement of Nucleate Pool Boiling

Journal of Enhanced Heat Transfer, 2007
The very high heat transfer rates in nucleate pool boiling are due to the rapid vapor bubble formation and departure from the heated surface. This paper presents observations and analyses of high-frequency bubble departures from very thin wires. The analysis shows that the bubbles entrained in experimentally observed nucleation jets were already at the

NUCLEATE POOL BOILING ON POROUS METALLIC COATINGS

Proceedings of the International Thermal Science Seminar Bled. Volume 1, 2000
The results of systematic experimental investigations of the heat transfer to distilled water in saturated pool boiling at atmospheric pressure are reported. The tests were conducted using stainless steel tubes of various diameters heated electrically and flat horizontal plates.

Heat transfer and nucleation in pool-boiling

International Journal of Thermal Sciences, 2006
Abstract The creation of bubbles is a fundamental process in boiling heat transfer. There must be a correlation between heat transfer and bubble action. In order to find out more about it a number of tubes of different materials, diameters and surface finish were investigated and their heat transfer coefficients were determined.

Theory of nucleate pool boiling

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1965
Abstract It is assumed in the following study that the heat flux in boiling heat transfer consists of three components: the first due to the flow of columns of bubbles; the second due to the molecular heat conduction in the liquid; and the third is due to the eddy convection. The latter is estimated from the data on the bubbling process.

NUCLEATE POOL BOILING OF REFRIGERANT/OIL MIXTURES

Experimental Heat Transfer, 1987
Abstract Experimental data are presented for the boiling of Refrigerant-113 and of mixtures of Refrigerant-113 and an oil (Shell Clavus-68) from horizontal electrically heated tubes. Data were obtained for both a plain tube (25.4 mm outside diameter) and a tow-finned tube having 19 fins per inch with an outside diameter of 25.4 mm and a fin route ...
