The microlayer in nucleate pool boiling

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1969
Abstract Experiments are reported in which organic liquids underwent pool boiling at low pressure, forming large vapour bubbles on the surface of a heater plate consisting of glass or ceramic. The temperature at the surface of the heater was measured, leading to support for the hypothesis that a thin layer of liquid (the microlayer) forms beneath the

Mechanism for Nucleation Jet Enhancement of Nucleate Pool Boiling

Journal of Enhanced Heat Transfer, 2007
The very high heat transfer rates in nucleate pool boiling are due to the rapid vapor bubble formation and departure from the heated surface. This paper presents observations and analyses of high-frequency bubble departures from very thin wires. The analysis shows that the bubbles entrained in experimentally observed nucleation jets were already at the

Behavior of nucleation sites in pool boiling

AIChE Journal, 1985
AbstractThe behavior of active boiling site populations was monitored for pool boiling on an electrically heated 1‐mil stainless steel sheet. The boiling sites were located using a high‐speed infrared camera focused on the underside of the boiling surface. Experiments were conducted to determine factors affecting the origin, concentration, and lifetime

Heat transfer and nucleation in pool-boiling

International Journal of Thermal Sciences, 2006
Abstract The creation of bubbles is a fundamental process in boiling heat transfer. There must be a correlation between heat transfer and bubble action. In order to find out more about it a number of tubes of different materials, diameters and surface finish were investigated and their heat transfer coefficients were determined.

On the dynamics of nucleate region pool boiling

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 1975
Abstract A transfer function to describe pool boiling dynamics was previously developed analytically. Dynamic measurements were performed and a transfer function for nucleate boiling was obtained based on experimental results. The transfer function contained an exponential delay term and for this reason was in many cases inconvenient to use.
