Localisation of nucleolus-organising regions in interphase cells
Cell and Tissue Research, 1979A technique based on the use of silver solutions, which selectively stains the nucleolus-organising regions (NORs) in chromosomes, was applied to interphase Ehrlich tumour cells. The results indicate that nucleolar fibrillar centres correspond to the NORs.

A Rapid Silver Staining and Destaining Technique for the Nucleolus Organizer Region
Biotechnic & Histochemistry, 1995Silver staining of nucleolar organizing regions (NOR) is common, but a standard protocol is lacking. A modification of a rapid silver nitrate staining technique for NORs is presented here. Advantages of the modified technique include reliability, speed, cost and the fact that it can be carried out in the light.

Experimental Cell Research, 1957Abstract The heterochromatic regions of mouse spermatogonial chromosomes have been described. The 38 autosomes have heterochromatic regions adjacent to the kinetochore loci. The X and the Y chromosomes are entirely heterochromatic and are concerned with nucleolus formation.

Phosphoprotein pp135 is an essential component of the nucleolus organizer region (NOR)
Experimental Cell Research, 1986The association of phosphoproteins pp135 and pp105 with distinct substructures of the nucleolus was studied by cytochemical and immunological methods at the light microscopic and electron microscopic level. Both phosphoproteins exhibited a very high affinity for silver and Giemsa staining compared to other nucleolar proteins.
