New record of nucleopolyhedroviruses in tea looper caterpillars in India
Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2011Tea production in North-East India hit a record loss due to the widespread severe outbreak of a mixed brood of three species of looper caterpillar pests of geometrid moths (Lepidoptera) in 2008-2010. In addition to Buzura suppressaria, two newly recorded geometrids, viz., Hyposidra infixaria and Hyposidra talaca have caused widespread severe damage in ...

A rapid bioassay screen for quantifying nucleopolyhedroviruses (Baculoviridae) in the environment
Journal of Virological Methods, 1999A quantitative bioassay method for the detection of Helicoverpa armigera (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) singly encapsulated nucleopolyhedroviruses (HaSNPVs) in soil is described. Calibration curves used for estimating soil virus titres in environmental samples were generated by incorporating a sterilised soil into a semi-synthetic insect diet then ...

Persistence and Distribution of Wild-Type and Recombinant Nucleopolyhedroviruses in Soil
Microbial Ecology, 2001Persistence of recombinant and wild-type nucleopolyhedroviruses (NPV) was compared in field and laboratory microcosm experiments. Horizontal and vertical distribution of the viruses also was monitored in the field agricultural soil. Mixed populations of the bollworm, Helicoverpa zea, and tobacco budworm, Heliothis virescens, in cotton were sprayed five

Ecology of insect nucleopolyhedroviruses
Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment, 2004Abstract The underlying thesis of this paper is that nucleopolyhedroviruses (NPV), like their insect hosts, exist as populations that can be considered in an ecological context. Population dynamics and transport within and from soil are basic to ecology and, in many cases, long-term survival of NPVs.

Helicoverpa armigera single nucleocapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus (HaSNPV) has been developed as a commercial biopesticide to control the cotton bollworm, H. armigera, in China. The major limitation to a broader application of this virus has been the relative long time to incapacitate the target insect.

Comparative analysis of the genomes of Bombyx mandarina and Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedroviruses
The Journal of Microbiology, 2010The Bombyx mandarina nucleopolyhedrovirus (BomaNPV) S1 strain can infect the silkworm, Bombyx mori, but is significantly less virulent than B. mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) T3 strain. The complete nucleotide sequence of the S1 strain of BomaNPV was determined and compared with the BmNPV T3 strain.

ABSTRACT Homologous and heterologous nucleopolyhedroviruses (NPVs) were assayed to determine their effectiveness against beet armyworm larvae, Spodoptera exigua (Hubner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Included were three NPV isolates from S. exigua, one isolate each from S. littoralis Boisduval, S. litura (F.), and S.

Host range of two multiple nucleopolyhedroviruses isolated from Spodoptera litura
Biological Control, 2007Abstract Twenty-two lepidopteran and one termite nontarget species were challenged with the in vivo -cloned Spodoptera littoralis multicapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus (SpliMNPV) or Spodoptera litura multicapsid NPV (SpltMNPV). S. litura larvae were used as controls to verify the infectivity of the NPV.

Bombyx mandarina nucleopolyhedrovirus (BomaNPV) is a variant of Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV). BomaNPV S1 strain has been reported to be significantly less virulent than the BmNPV T3 strain via the oral infection route in B. mori larvae, but other features of S1 including budded virus (BV) infectivity and virus propagation in cultured cells ...

Light and stereomicroscopy examinations of Anticarsia gemmatalis multicapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus (AgMNPV)-infected insects were performed in order to follow infection in its host, A. gemmatalis. Fourth-instar A. gemmatalis larvae were infected by administration of occluded virus (polyhedra) from two recombinant AgMNPV viruses (vAgEGTDelta-lacZ or ...
