Three topics in additive prime number theory

open access: yes, 2007
This is an expository article to accompany my two lectures at the CDM conference. I have used this an excuse to make public two sets of notes I had lying around, and also to put together a short reader's guide to some recent joint work with T.Tao ...

The dual nature of TDC – bridging dendritic and T cells in immunity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
TDC are hematopoietic cells combining dendritic and T cell features. They reach secondary lymphoid organs (SLOs) and peripheral organs (liver and lungs) after FLT3‐dependent development in the bone marrow and maturation in the thymus. TDC are activated and enriched in SLOs upon viral infection, suggesting that they might play unique immune roles, since

Some conjectures in elementary number theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We announce a number of conjectures associated with and arising from a study of primes and irrationals in $\mathbb{R}$.

Leveraging current insights on IL‐10‐producing dendritic cells for developing effective immunotherapeutic approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In vivo IL‐10 produced by tissue‐resident tolDC is involved in maintaining/inducing tolerance. Depending on the agent used for ex vivo tolDC generation, cells acquire common features but prime T cells towards anergy, FOXP3+ Tregs, or Tr1 cells according to the levels of IL‐10 produced. Ex vivo‐induced tolDC were administered to patients to re‐establish/

The height of q-Binary Search Trees [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2002
q-binary search trees are obtained from words, equipped with a geometric distribution instead of permutations. The average and variance of the heighth computated, based on random words of length n, as well as a Gaussian limit law.

FoxO1 signaling in B cell malignancies and its therapeutic targeting

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FoxO1 has context‐specific tumor suppressor or oncogenic character in myeloid and B cell malignancies. This includes tumor‐promoting properties such as stemness maintenance and DNA damage tolerance in acute leukemias, or regulation of cell proliferation and survival, or migration in mature B cell malignancies.

A structure theorem in probabilistic number theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We prove that if two additive functions (from a certain class) take large values with roughly the same probability then they must be identical. This is a consequence of a structure theorem making clear the inter-relation between the distribution of an ...

Fermi-Dirac statistics and the number theory

open access: yes, 2005
We relate the Fermi-Dirac statistics of an ideal Fermi gas in a harmonic trap to partitions of given integers into distinct parts, studied in number theory.

The immunological interface: dendritic cells as key regulators in metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) affects nearly one‐third of the global population and poses a significant risk of progression to cirrhosis or liver cancer. Here, we discuss the roles of hepatic dendritic cell subtypes in MASLD, highlighting their distinct contributions to disease initiation and progression, and their ...

Record statistics in integer compositions [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2009
A $\textit{composition}$ $\sigma =a_1 a_2 \ldots a_m$ of $n$ is an ordered collection of positive integers whose sum is $n$. An element $a_i$ in $\sigma$ is a strong (weak) $\textit{record}$ if $a_i> a_j (a_i \geq a_j)$ for all $j=1,2,\ldots,i-1 ...
