Abstract Numeration Systems

2011
We survey various results concerning abstract numeration systems. We begin with the classical case of the integer base numeration systems, then examine the more general case of linear numeration systems. Finally we discuss abstract numeration systems, which generalize even further the two previous classes of numeration systems.

Numeration Systems. Binary Numeration

1973
The concept of a number is one of the fundamental concepts of arithmetic and of mathematics in general. At this stage, it is neither intended to trace back the history of this notion, nor to describe the evolution which has led to the perfectly axiomatic definitions currently in use.

On numerical methods in simulation systems

Annual Review in Automatic Programming, 1985
Abstract Simulation as a problem solution method developed into one of the most important aids of the modern engineer in the last few years. Central problems in the development and evaluation of simulation systems have been, on the one hand, the questions of the adaptation to the user's requirements and, on the other hand, the robustness of the ...

On conventions for systems of numerical representation

Proceedings of the ACM annual conference on - ACM '72, 1972
Present conventions for numeric representation are considered inadequate to serve the needs of applied computing. Thus an augmented digital number system is proposed for use in programming languages and in digital computers. Special symbols are proposed for numbers too large, too small or too close to zero to be represented in the normal digital number

A numerical algorithm for hamiltonian systems

Journal of Computational Physics, 1991
In this note, the author deals with finite difference schemes to simulate the trajectory of a Newtonian particle in a conservative field. The analysis of the schemes is made on the basis of three basic properties of the underlying continuous equation: Canonical character, time reversibility and the energy conservation.

The Numeral System

1971
Up to now it has been customary to include in grammars of the Classical languages a chapter on "Numerals" which demonstrates how to count in the specific language. The number of oppositions found in the numeral system of Koine Greek amounts to 15. The numerals of the basic series have no common characteristic of form.

Dynamical analysis of numerical systems

Numerical Linear Algebra with Applications, 1995
AbstractFor many years techniques from numerical analysis have been applied fruitfully to the study of dynamical systems. In this paper it is shown that the theory of dynamical systems may be applied to certain computational problems. In particular the question of global convergence of various QR algorithms can be reduced to the study of certain vector
