Improving Student Takeaway in an Introductory Numerical Analysis/Scientific Computing Course: A Threshold Concepts Approach

Proceedings of the 21st Koli Calling International Conference on Computing Education Research, 2021
Here we describe a project whose goal is to address issues associated with student takeaway, i.e., enduring learning, in an introductory course in Numerical Analysis/Scientific Computing (NA/SC) commonly taught in undergraduate programs in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Engineering.

Impact of Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing

2018
As we have seen in this book, computational methods have a long history, starting with the Babylonians. Some analytical techniques and numerical algorithms have had a particularly strong impact, and in this final section we shall point out some of those that are still used with significant impact on computational science.

FERROFLUIDS: MODELING, NUMERICAL ANALYSIS, AND SCIENTIFIC COMPUTATION

2015
This dissertation presents some developments in the Numerical Analysis of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) describing the behavior of ferrofluids. The most widely accepted PDE model for ferrofluids is the Micropolar model proposed by R.E. Rosensweig. The Micropolar Navier-Stokes Equations (MNSE) is a subsystem of PDEs within the Rosensweig model.

Scientific Computing and Numerical Analysis: Tools for Mathematical Modeling and Simulation

Abstract: Scientific Computing and Numerical Analysis: Tools for Mathematical Modeling and Simulation presents a rigorous, practice-ready pathway from phenomenon to trustworthy computation. The book integrates model formulation (from ODE/PDE/DAE systems to inverse problems) with conditioning analysis, discretization theory, and solver design, showing ...
