A mixed algorithm for numerical computation of soliton solutions of the coupled KdV equation: Finite difference method and differential quadrature method

open access: yes, 2019
The aim of the manuscript is to investigate numerical solutions of the system of coupled Korteweg-de Vries equation. For this approximation, we have used finite difference method for time integration and differential quadrature method depending on ...

Wearable‐Derived Diurnal Alignment Between Physical Activity and Device Temperature Predicts Future Disease and Mortality Risk

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Wearable‐derived diurnal alignment between physical activity and device temperature, decomposed into 24 h coupling strength (M24), phase deviation (D24), and 12 h harmonic magnitude (M12), is examined in approximately 90,000 UK Biobank participants.

AI‐Assisted Digital Single‐Molecule Activity Tracker for Decoupling Intrinsic Heterogeneity from Photo‐Oxidative Damage in High‐Photon‐Flux Enzymology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Employing a digital single‐molecule activity tracker (dSMAT), this research demonstrates that high‐photon‐flux irradiation drives progressive oxidative scarring in polymerases. Unlike simple thermal denaturation, real‐time kinetic tracking dynamically visualizes enzymes degrading into multiple impaired subpopulations.

Ban Glyphosate—Does It Affect the Swedish Farmers' Willingness to Grow Cover Crops?

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The cultivation of cover crops is one of the new Eco‐scheme practices introduced in Sweden. This study examines how the design of policy attributes of these schemes influences farmers' willingness to grow cover crops on arable land, with particular focus on the potential impact of a glyphosate ban.

Unpacking the Farmland Capitalization Effect of Ethanol Establishment

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We unpack the impact of expansions in ethanol production—as measured by proximity to newly constructed ethanol plants and capacity expansions—on farmland values using land transaction data from Kansas in combination with modern causal inference techniques.

The quest for a truly parsimonious airfoil parameterisation scheme

open access: yes, 2008
The conceptual phase of the aircraft design process demands a parsimonious description of the airframe geometry. While there is no hard and fast upper limit on the affordable number of variables, the so-called 'curse of dimensionality' must always be ...

Robust neurofuzzy rule base knowledge extraction and estimation using subspace decomposition combined with regularization and D-optimality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
A new robust neurofuzzy model construction algorithm has been introduced for the modeling of a priori unknown dynamical systems from observed finite data sets in the form of a set of fuzzy rules.

Crop Insurance Design and On‐Farm Risk Adaptation

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The United States spends billions annually on crop insurance premium subsidies, yet the prevailing distance‐based guarantee design unintentionally rewards risk‐taking by linking subsidies to yield variability. We consider a simple redesign: define guarantees in terms of probability so that coverage reflects a consistent likelihood of indemnity.

Image compression with anisotropic diffusion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Compression is an important field of digital image processing where well-engineered methods with high performance exist. Partial differential equations (PDEs), however, have not much been explored in this context so far. In our paper we introduce a novel
