An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

A Numerical Integrator for Kinetostatic Folding of Protein Molecules Modeled as Robots with Hyper Degrees of Freedom

open access: yesRobotics
The kinetostatic compliance method (KCM) models protein molecules as nanomechanisms consisting of numerous rigid peptide plane linkages. These linkages articulate with respect to each other through changes in the molecule dihedral angles, resulting in a ...

Numerical Integrators for Highly Oscillatory Hamiltonian Systems: A Review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Numerical methods for oscillatory, multi-scale Hamiltonian systems are reviewed. The construction principles are described, and the algorithmic and analytical distinction between problems with nearly constant high frequencies and with time- or state ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Lie group and exponential integrators: Theory, implementation, and applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This PhD-thesis contains an introduction and six research papers sorted chronologically, of which the first four are accepted for publication. The introduction aims at giving a very brief summary of the background theory needed for the following papers ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

A Family of Trigonometrically Fitted Enright Second Derivative Methods for Stiff and Oscillatory Initial Value Problems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2015
A family of Enright’s second derivative formulas with trigonometric basis functions is derived using multistep collocation method. The continuous schemes obtained are used to generate complementary methods.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Structure-Preserving Time Integration of Non-Autonomous Lagrangian Systems Based on Prolongation–Collocation Variational Integrators

open access: yesMathematics
We develop structure-preserving variational integrators for non-autonomous Lagrangian systems by extending the prolongation–collocation variational integrator framework to explicitly time-dependent dynamics.

Numerical evaluation of diffraction integrals

open access: yesJournal of Research of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, 2000
This paper describes a simple numerical integration method for diffraction integrals which is based on elementary geometrical considerations of the manner in which different portions of the incident wavefront contribute to the diffracted field. The method is applicable in a wide range of cases as the assumptions regarding the type of integral are ...
