Numerical modeling for plasmonics
International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, 2011This contribution is a review paper, concerning mainly the research work made by the authors, about the numerical modeling, in the frequency domain, of both surface and bulk plasmon oscillations induced in metallic nanoparticles with arbitrary shapes by an external electromagnetic field.

NUMERICAL MODELLING OF DISCONTINUA
Engineering Computations, 1992Discrete element methods are numerical procedures for simulating the complete behaviour of systems of discrete, interacting bodies. Three important aspects of discrete element programs are examined: (1) the representation of contacts; (2) the representation of solid material; and (3) the scheme used to detect and revise the set of contacts.

Numerical Modeling of Mudflows
Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 1997To predict mudflow dynamics a numerical model based on shallow-water equations is developed. Previous work has shown that mudflow behavior can be well represented by a Herschel-Bulkley model. In a laminar regime, generally observed in practice, a wall friction force expression has been theoretically deduced for steady uniform flows.

An approach to approximate data by smooth numerical models is described. The idea seems to be ``\dots to fit a smooth numerical model to the data, instead of fitting a curve.'' Theoretical backgrounds are partially available and illustrative examples are discussed.

A procedure for evaluating system performance considering all orders of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is presented. The method provides engineering rules for computing system penalty introduced by PMD. Computer simulation of PMD induced penalty indicates that for generating a realistic system budget, effect of higher order PMD in presence of ...

This chapter deals with the problem of modelling the behaviour of massive concrete structures. In the last decades, the developments in the field of computational mechanics were significant, so nowadays several numerical techniques are available to this goal, depending on the scale level considered but also on which phenomena/processes are taken into ...
