Simulation of fractionally damped mechanical systems by means of a Newmark-diffusive scheme [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A Newmark-diffusive scheme is presented for the time-domain solution of dynamic systems containing fractional derivatives. This scheme combines a classical Newmark time-integration method used to solve second-order mechanical systems (obtained for ...

An Energy Conserving Numerical Scheme for the Klein–Gordon Equation with Cubic Nonlinearity

open access: yes, 2022
In this paper, we develop a numerical scheme that conserves the discrete energy for solving the Klein-Gordon equation with cubic nonlinearity. We prove theoretically that our scheme conserves not just discrete energy, but also other energy-like discrete ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Exact and approximate solutions of Riemann problems in non-linear elasticity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Eulerian shock-capturing schemes have advantages for modelling problems involving complex non-linear wave structures and large deformations in solid media.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Topics in Numerical Computation of Compressible Flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
This thesis aims to assist the development of a multiblock implicit Navier-Stokes code for hypersonic flow applications. There are mainly three topics, which concern the understanding of basic Riemann solvers, the implementing of implicit zonal ...

Analysis of Cauchy problem with fractal-fractional differential operators

open access: yesDemonstratio Mathematica, 2023
Cauchy problems with fractal-fractional differential operators with a power law, exponential decay, and the generalized Mittag-Leffler kernels are considered in this work.

Numerical implementation of the multisymplectic Preissman scheme and its equivalent schemes

open access: yesApplied Mathematics and Computation, 2004
We analyze the multisymplectic Preissman scheme for the KdV equation with the periodic boundary condition and show that the unconvergence of the widely-used iterative methods to solve the resulting nonlinear algebra system of the Preissman scheme is due to the introduced potential function.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

An adaptive gridding technique for conservation laws on complex domains [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Obtaining accurate solutions to flows that involve discontinuous features still re- mains one of the most difficult tasks in computational fluid dynamics today.
