Numerical Simulations of Pulverized Coal Combustion

open access: yesKONA Powder and Particle Journal, 2014
Coal is an important energy resource for meeting the further demand for electricity, as coal reserves are much more abundant than those of other fossil fuels.

Fragmentation Instability of Molecular Clouds: Numerical Simulations

open access: yes, 2000
We simulate fragmentation and gravitational collapse of cold, magnetized molecular clouds. We explore the nonlinear development of an instability mediated by ambipolar diffusion, in which the collapse rate is intermediate to fast gravitational collapse ...

A large‐scale retrospective study in metastatic breast cancer patients using circulating tumour DNA and machine learning to predict treatment outcome and progression‐free survival

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
There is an unmet need in metastatic breast cancer patients to monitor therapy response in real time. In this study, we show how a noninvasive and affordable strategy based on sequencing of plasma samples with longitudinal tracking of tumour fraction paired with a statistical model provides valuable information on treatment response in advance of the ...

Numerical simulations of an intake-compressor system

open access: yesJournal of the Global Power and Propulsion Society, 2018
Integrated propulsion plays a major role in future civil and military aircraft design. A key component of these systems are highly bent intake geometries.

Self-propelled Janus particles in a ratchet: numerical simulations. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2013
Brownian transport of self-propelled overdamped microswimmers (like Janus particles) in a two-dimensional periodically compartmentalized channel is numerically investigated for different compartment geometries, boundary collisional dynamics, and particle

Unraveling LINE‐1 retrotransposition in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel RetroTest method allows the detection of L1 activation in clinical samples with low DNA input, providing global L1 activity and the identification of the L1 source element. We applied RetroTest to a real‐world cohort of HNSCC patients where we reported an early L1 activation, with more than 60% of T1 patients showing L1 activity.

EMT‐associated bias in the Parsortix® system observed with pancreatic cancer cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The Parsortix® system was tested for CTC enrichment using pancreatic cancer cell lines with different EMT phenotypes. Spike‐in experiments showed lower recovery of mesenchymal‐like cells. This was confirmed with an EMT‐inducible breast cancer cell line.

Numerical Simulations for Fuel Aircraft Management System [PDF]

open access: yesINCAS Bulletin, 2019
The Fuel Management Systems for civil aircrafts have a direct impact on the airlines profitability, competitiveness and sustainability, because the fuel represents the highest cost for airlines, on average 32% of overall operating costs; extra costs can ...

Numerical simulations of shocks encountering clumpy regions

open access: yes, 2012
We present numerical simulations of the adiabatic interaction of a shock with a clumpy region containing many individual clouds. Our work incorporates a sub-grid turbulence model which for the first time makes this investigation feasible.
