On the potential use of radar-derived information in operational numerical weather prediction [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
Estimates of requirements likely to be levied on a new observing system for mesoscale meteonology are given. Potential observing systems for mesoscale numerical weather prediction are discussed.

Predicting wind energy generation with recurrent neural networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Decarbonizing the energy supply requires extensive use of renewable generation. Their intermittent nature requires to obtain accurate forecasts of future generation, at short, mid and long term.

Nanoscale Mapping of Plasmonic Charge Transport in Nano‐Resonators Based on Resistive Switching Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this strategy, a conductive nano‐probe is employed to induce nanoscale phase transitions and map the nanoscale conductivity and trap density of GST films. By utilizing the contrasting properties of phase‐change states, nano‐resonators are fabricated that exhibit plasmonic conduction and dramatically different transport characteristics.

Identifying sensitivities for cirrus modelling using a two-moment two-mode bulk microphysics scheme [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Cirrus cloud genesis is an inherently multiscale and non-linear problem. The synoptic scale provides the environment, the mesoscale determines the forcing and the actual nucleation events occur on a microscopic scale. This makes the parameterisation in

Effect of Horizontal Resolution on a Meso‐β‐Scale Vortex Simulation in an Extreme Rainstorm on 22 May 2020 Over South China: A Contrastive Study Based on Different‐Resolution Ensembles

open access: yesEarth and Space Science
A transient extreme rainstorm that occurred over Guangzhou city, China, on 22 May 2020, has been investigated based on two ensemble prediction systems (EPSs), one with 9‐km (TRAMS9km‐EPS) and the other with 3‐km (TRAMS3km‐EPS) grid spacings, respectively.

Meteorological applications of precipitable water vapor measurements retrieved by the national GNSS network of China

open access: yesGeodesy and Geodynamics, 2015
In this study, the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) network of China is discussed, which can be used to monitor atmospheric precipitable water vapor (PWV).

Light absorption properties and potential sources of particulate brown carbon in the Pearl River Delta region of China [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2019
Brown carbon (BrC) is a special type of organic aerosol (OA), capable of absorbing solar radiation from near-ultraviolet (UV) to visible wavelengths, which may lead to an increased aerosol radiative effect in the atmosphere.

Bio‐Inspired Molecular Events in Poly(Ionic Liquids)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Originating from dipolar and polar inter‐ and intra‐chain interactions of the building blocks, the topologies and morphologies of poly(ionic liquids) (PIL) govern their nano‐ and micro‐processibility. Modulating the interactions of cation‐anion pairs with aliphatic dipolar components enables the tunability of properties, facilitated by “bottom‐up ...

2D Magnetic and Topological Quantum Materials and Devices for Ultralow Power Spintronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
2D magnets and topological quantum materials enable ultralow‐power spintronics by combining robust magnetic order with symmetry‐protected, Berry‐curvature‐driven transport. Fundamentals of 2D anisotropy and spin‐orbit‐coupling induced band inversion are linked to scalable growth and vdW stacking.

From Clinic to Computation: Multiscale Bioengineering Strategies for Durable Biological Aortic Valve Replacements

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioprosthetic aortic valves have revolutionized the treatment of aortic stenosis, but their durability is limited by structural valve deterioration (SVD). This review focuses on the pericardial tissue at the heart of these valves, examining how its mechanical properties and calcification drive fatigue and failure.
