Improving Precipitation Estimation Using Convolutional Neural Network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Precipitation process is generally considered to be poorly represented in numerical weather/climate models. Statistical downscaling (SD) methods, which relate precipitation with model resolved dynamics, often provide more accurate precipitation estimates

Cold climates, complex hydrology: can a land surface model accurately simulate deep percolation? [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences
Cold regions present unique challenges for land surface models in simulating deep percolation or potential groundwater recharge. Previous model evaluation efforts often overlooked these regions and did not account for various sources of uncertainties ...

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.

The use of GNSS zenith total delays in operational AROME/Hungary 3D-Var over a central European domain [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2019
The delay of satellite signals broadcasted by Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) provides unique atmospheric observations which endorse numerical weather prediction from global to limited-area models.

Toward Stable Multivalent Metal Batteries: Understanding the Interfacial Chemistry for Magnesium and Calcium Metal Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Interphase chemistry governs the stability of multivalent metal batteries. We summarize state‐of‐the‐art developments in calcium and magnesium metal batteries by focusing on the correlation among electrolytes, interphase layers, and the electrochemical performance of corresponding metal anodes.

Atomic Layer Deposition in Transistors and Monolithic 3D Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Transistors are fundamental building blocks of modern electronics. This review summarizes recent progress in atomic layer deposition (ALD) for the synthesis of two‐dimensional (2D) metal oxides and transition‐metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), with particular emphasis on their enabling role in monolithic three‐dimensional (M3D) integration for next ...

Assessing atmospheric predictability on Mars using numerical weather prediction and data assimilation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Introduction: Studies of the time series of surface measurements of wind, pressure and temperature at the two Viking landers by Barnes [1], [2] revealed that baroclinic transient travelling waves on Mars occur mostly during northern hemisphere autumn ...

Probabilistic temperature forecasting based on an ensemble AR modification

open access: yes, 2015
To address the uncertainty in outputs of numerical weather prediction (NWP) models, ensembles of forecasts are used. To obtain such an ensemble of forecasts the NWP model is run multiple times, each time with different formulations and/or initial or ...

Hydrogen‐Bond–Driven Ion Retention in Electrolyte‐Gated Synaptic Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Anion molecular design governs ion–polymer interactions in electrolyte‐gated synaptic transistors. Asymmetric anions induce hydrogen‐bond interactions that suppress ion back‐diffusion and stabilize doping, enabling enhanced nonvolatile synaptic properties.
