Domain‐Wall‐Free Sliding Ferroelectricity in Fully Commensurate 3R Transition Metal Dichalcogenide Bilayers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
It is reported that the ferroelectric switching behavior of rhombohedral (3R) phase transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) bilayers strongly depends on their domain structures. Single‐domain TMDs (SD‐TMDs) with domain‐wall‐free structures exhibit robust and stable polarization switching, whereas poly‐domain TMDs (PD‐TMDs) with randomly distributed ...

Energy and Numerical Weather Prediction [PDF]

open access: yesTellus A: Dynamic Meteorology and Oceanography, 1960
Since the study of energy transformations and the numerical integration of simplifiied equations are sometimes used as alternative approaches to the same physical problem, it is often desirable that the simplified equations conserve total energy under reversible adiabatic processes.

Universal Neuromorphic Element: NbOx Memristor with Co‐Existing Volatile, Non‐Volatile, and Threshold Switching

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A W/NbOx/Pt memristor demonstrates the coexistence of volatile, non‐volatile, and threshold switching characteristics. Volatile switching serves as a reservoir computing layer, providing dynamic short‐term processing. Non‐volatile switching, stabilized through ISPVA, improves reliable long‐term readout. Threshold switching operates as a leaky integrate

Observed northward shift of large hailstorms in the eastern United States since 2000

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
Given its high population density and degree of urbanization, the eastern United States (US) is a region vulnerable to the impacts from hailstorms. Small changes in hail activity may indicate large impacts on the potential hail risks faced by the region.

Spectrally Tunable 2D Material‐Based Infrared Photodetectors for Intelligent Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent optoelectronics through spectral engineering of 2D material‐based infrared photodetectors. Abstract The evolution of intelligent optoelectronic systems is driven by artificial intelligence (AI). However, their practical realization hinges on the ability to dynamically capture and process optical signals across a broad infrared (IR) spectrum.

A time-dependent three-dimensional dayside magnetopause model based on quasi-elastodynamic theory [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development
The interaction between the solar wind and Earth's magnetosphere is a critical area of research in space weather and space physics. Accurate determination of the magnetopause position is essential for understanding magnetospheric dynamics. While numerous

Application of targeted observation in a model's physical parameters for the simulation and forecast of heat flux with a land surface model

open access: yesMeteorological Applications, 2020
The targeted observation is that the additional observation is implemented in important regions to improve a numerical forecast of a weather or climate event.

Does a Morphotropic Phase Boundary Exist in ZrxHf1‐xO2‐Based Thin Films?

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates 6 nm zirconium‐rich hafnium‐zirconium oxide thin–film metal–insulator–metal capacitors using a combination of experimental methods and machine learning–based molecular dynamics simulations to provide insight into the physical mechanisms that enhance the dielectric constant near 0 V and attribute it to the field‐induced ...

Photothermal Macroporous Lignin Cryogels for Off‐Grid, Continuous Atmospheric Water Collection via Interlayer Heat Recovery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Photothermal, macroporous lignin‐based cryogels are engineered to convert sunlight into low‐grade heat. Integrated as stacked beds in a drum‐type device, a thin copper interlayer transfers waste heat between beds, enabling interlayer heat recovery and continuous solar cycling.
