Interspecific germline transmission of cultured primordial germ cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
In birds, the primordial germ cell (PGC) lineage separates from the soma within 24 h following fertilization. Here we show that the endogenous population of about 200 PGCs from a single chicken embryo can be expanded one million fold in culture.

Isotopic evidence for the consumption of Galliformes by the red fox (Vulpes vulpes) in rural southern England

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Anthropogenic resource subsidies can drive mesopredator population growth, altering predator–prey dynamics. The red fox Vulpes vulpes is a generalist canid that can readily exploit such subsidies. In the UK, tens of millions of pheasants Phasianus colchicus and red‐legged partridges Alectoris rufa are released annually for sport shooting, potentially ...

Digital range of motion analysis is sensitive to subjective steps in joint model construction

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
A systematic sensitivity analysis of a six degree‐of‐freedom range of motion (ROM) analysis workflow was conducted to evaluate how variation in the subjective steps of the reference pose assembly affects the determined viable poses in the ankle and tarsometatarsophalangeal III joints of Guinea fowl (Numida meleagris).

Adsorption of Toxic Metals from Landfill Leachate onto Guinea Fowl Eggshells in the Era of Green Chemistry

open access: yesBioResources, 2023
One of the best and most affordable ways to remove harmful metals from water is by adsorption. This study investigated the efficiency of guinea fowl (Numida meleagris) eggshells as a low-cost adsorbent for cadmium (Cd) and nickel (Ni) removal from ...
