The surprising complexity and diversity of sperm storage structures across Galliformes. [PDF]
Female birds utilise specialised sperm storage tubules in the reproductive tract, which ensure sperm are always available for fertilisation, whilst also potentially facilitating female sperm selection . Here, we show that sperm storage tubules, and the surrounding tissue, can vary substantially in morphology across species of Galliformes.
