Development of a shelling method to recover whole kernels of the Cutia nut (Couepia edulis) Desenvolvimento de metódo para descorticação da castanha de Cutia em amendoas inteiras

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Fruticultura, 2006
The kernel of the cutia nut (castanha-de-cutia, Couepia edulis (Prance) Prance) of the western Amazon, which is consumed by the local population, has traditionally been extracted from the nut with a machete, a dangerous procedure that only produces ...

Pattern Formation in Non‐Equilibrium Architected Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This article demonstrates an artificial mechanical system ‐ a robotic metamaterial ‐ as an accessible and versatile platform within which to explore and prescribe the reaction‐diffusion driven pattern formation hitherto associated with comparatively less accessible and versatile non‐equilibrium biological and chemical systems.

Verification of the Design Concept on Nuts in Bolt/Nut Assembly for the Revision of ISO 898-2 and ISO 898-6

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2007
The ISO nuts of styles 1 and 2 specified in ISO 898-2 and ISO 898-6 are designed to prevent the thread stripping failure mode based on the calculation method called the Alexander's theory.

Microfluidic Engineering of Chitosan‐Coated Nanoemulsions for Controlled Release and Stability in Space Pharmaceutics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Microfluidic engineering enables the fabrication of chitosan‐coated, melatonin‐loaded nanoemulsions with controlled release and enhanced physicochemical stability for space pharmaceutics. Interfacial biopolymer coating modulates droplet behavior under accelerated thermal stress and simulated microgravity.

UTact: Underwater Vision‐Based Tactile Sensor with Geometry Reconstruction and Contact Force Estimation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Embedded flexible sensing technologies advance underwater soft robotics, yet most systems still suffer from hysteresis and limited perceptiveness. Instead, vision‐based tactile sensors provide reliable and rapid feedback essential for complex underwater tasks.

Nut production in Bertholletia excelsa across a logged forest mosaic: implications for multiple forest use [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Although many examples of multiple-use forest management may be found in tropical smallholder systems, few studies provide empirical support for the integration of selective timber harvesting with non-timber forest product (NTFP) extraction.

Universal Gripper for Industrial Manipulation With Enhanced Rigid Mechanics and Self‐Adaptable Fingers

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
An enhanced universal gripper combining rigid mechanics with self‐adaptable fingers is presented for industrial automation. The novel six‐bar linkage with integrated compliant pad eliminates mechanical interference while enabling passive shape adaptation.

Grip and Grasp: Lizard Claw Inspired Robotic Manipulators

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Our study identifies the most effective lizard claw shape for use as an end effector in a bioinspired robotic manipulator. By examining key geometric features and combining them into comparative indices, the Crotaphytus collaris claw is found to be the best fit.
