Autonomous Folding of Soft Matter From Living Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Origami structures are endowed with “living” polymer creases that grow, remodel, and stiffen in response to nutrient solutions. This post‐fabrication growth enables autonomous folding, iterative regrowth, and mechanical tuning involving origami assemblies, such as cranes, Miura‐ori tessellations, rigid and non‐rigid square‐twist patterns, establishing ...

From Fiber Bundles to Architected Membranes: Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Architectures for Biohybrid Artificial Lungs

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) membranes offer an architecture‐driven alternative to hollow fiber bundles in artificial lungs. Multiphysics simulations and endothelialized prototypes show that the 3D‐printable membrane architecture improves gas exchange, blood flow distribution, and hemocompatibility, enabling ...

Soft Skins With Reversible Thickness Morphing: Materials, Mechanisms, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Evolution of electronic skin (e‐skin) technologies toward adaptive, multifunctional soft skins. Phase I highlights early rigid and discrete sensory interfaces. Phase II shows the transition toward flexible, stretchable, and large‐area e‐skin. Phase III captures the emergence of computational e‐skin.

Metal–Organic Framework‐Preserved Thermostable Microneedle Patch for Minimally Invasive Detection and Monitoring of Kidney Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
By growing a conformal ZIF‐8 protective layer directly on antibody‐functionalized microneedles, this work converts a fragile biosensing interface into a thermostable diagnostic platform. The MOF@MN patch enables minimally invasive NGAL detection from dermal ISF while supporting cold‐chain‐independent storage and transport for decentralized kidney ...

Sustainable Poly(Lactic Acid)/Graphene Oxide Bioelectronic Platform for Neurotransmitters Sensing and Tunable Stimulation of Astrocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces sustainable PLA/graphene oxide bioelectronic interfaces featuring electrodes with tunable conductivity and strong electrocatalytic performance. These platforms were used to implement a new method for tuning astrocyte Ca2+ signaling and for the efficient detection of key biomarkers.

Programmable Functional Silicification of DNA Origami Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces additional functionality into silica‐coated DNA origami nanostructures using non‐standard silica precursors. A fluorescent precursor enables enhanced intracellular tracking, while a disulfide‐containing reagent yields redox‐responsive, degradable silica coatings.

Nutrient Removal by Waterhyacinth

Weed Science, 1972
Removal of nitrogen and phosphorus by waterhyacinth [Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms] in static and flowing water was investigated. Milligrams of phosphorus absorbed per plant per day in static water averaged 1.1, 2.1, 3.1, and 1.6 in 10, 25, and 50% Hoagland's solution and in sewage effluent, respectively, while in flowing water the values were 1.7,

Nutrient release, recovery and removal from waste sludge of a biological nutrient removal system

Environmental Technology, 2014
The uncontrolled release of nutrients from waste sludge results in nitrogen and phosphorus overloading in wastewater treatment plants when supernatant is returned to the inlet. A controlled release, recovery and removal of nutrient from the waste sludge of a Biological Nutrient Removal system (BNR) are investigated.
