Nutrient film technique –- crop culture in flowing nutrient solution
Outlook on Agriculture, 1978Tomatoes grown by the nutrient film technique have yielded significantly heavier crops than comparable peat-grown plants, with no loss of fruit quality. Precise control of the root environment and nutrient supply is essential, and automatic control units are integral to the successful operation of the system.

Nutrient Solutions for Orchids
Botanical Gazette, 19511. VACIN and WENT (8) proposed a nutrient solution designated solution 5 as an improvement over KNUDSON solution C for the germination of orchid seed and growth of the seedlings. Experiments reveal that the VACIN and WENT solution 5 is unsuited for the purposes suggested.

Photochemistry in Hoagland's Nutrient Solution
Journal of Plant Nutrition, 2003Atrazine photodegraded (in the absence of plants) in Hoagland's hydroponic medium in sunlight. The medium contained two important solar UV absorbing species, complexed iron and nitrate. Increasing the concentrations of iron or of nitrate resulted in increased rates of atrazine loss.

Outsourcing the preparation of parenteral nutrient solutions
American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, 1996A hospital pharmacy's experience with using an outsourcing center to prepare parenteral nutrient solutions (PNs) is described. In 1994 the pharmacy at a 340-bed level 1 trauma center selected an outsourcing center located 20 miles away to provide PN-compounding services; the center is licensed as a manufacturer and has an extensive quality control ...

Availability of Insulin From Parenteral Nutrient Solutions
American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, 1977The effect of the following variables on insulin loss from total parenteral nutrient solutions was examined: (1) time of infusion sample; (2) insulin concentration; (3) amino acid or polypeptide source; (4) electrolytes and vitamins; (5) inline filters; (6) glass and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) infusion containers; and (7) human albumin.

Plant nutrient solution pH changes
Journal of Biological Education, 1992Plants grown In solution culture usually alter the pH of the nutrient solution. The roots cause pH to decrease by excreting hydrogen ions, or cause pH to increase by excreting hydroxyl ions or bicarbonate ions. Solution pH increases when all nitrogen is supplied as nitrate, except for some species.

Sterilization-in-place of concentrated nutrient solutions
Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1999Sterilization-in-place (batch sterilization) behavior of concentrated nutrient solutions was quantified for various nutrient solutions of fermentation processing interest. Experimental observations of sterilization temperatures and corresponding pressures suggested that sterilization pressures were substantially lower for concentrated nutrient ...

Crop Production in Nutrient Solutions
Nature, 1945SEVEN years ago Prof. W. F. Gericke, of the University of California, published an article in Science under the title "Hydroponics—Crop Production in Liquid Culture Media", and he followed this up in 1940 by a book, "Complete Guide to Soil-less Gardening". The idea attracted certain people very strongly, and before long it was necessary for some of the

Biotechnology: A Solution for Improving Nutrient Bioavailability
International Journal for Vitamin and Nutrition Research, 2002Biotechnology strategies are now available to improve the amount and availability of nutrients in plant crops. Those strategies include simple plant selection for varieties with high nutrient density in the seeds, cross-breeding for incorporating a desired trait within a plant, and genetic engineering to manipulate the nutrient content of the plant ...

Control of microorganisms in flowing nutrient solutions
Advances in Space Research, 1994Controlling microorganisms in flowing nutrient solutions involves different techniques when targeting the nutrient solution, hardware surfaces in contact with the solution, or the active root zone. This review presents basic principles and applications of a number of treatment techniques, including disinfection by chemicals, ultrafiltration ...
