Discovery of Jaspamycin from marine-derived natural product based on MTA3 to inhibit hepatocellular carcinoma progression

open access: yesScientific Reports
Studies have underscored the pivotal role of metastasis-associated protein 3 (MTA3) as a cancer regulator, yet its potential as a drug target across cancers necessitates comprehensive evaluation.

Ultrasound-assisted extraction of polysaccharide from Allium chinense G. Don epidermal waste: Evaluation of extraction mechanism, physicochemical properties, and bioactivities

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry
Allium chinense G. Don waste (ACGD) has an abundance of polysaccharides (ACGDP). Therefore, in this study, a method for extraction of ACGDP from ACGD by ultrasonic-assisted hot water extraction (UAE) based on ultrasonic cleaning equipment was developed ...

Quantitative proteomic analysis reveals different characteristics of bladder cancer cells after exposure to bisphenol A

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical in plastics, exerts dual effects on bladder cancer cells: low doses promote growth and migration, while high doses suppress growth and migration. Multi‐omics and bioinformatics reveal BPA acts via MAPK and inflammatory pathways.

Microorganisms Cycling Soil Nutrients

open access: yes, 2019
Microorganisms drive nutrient cycles in soil, and without this key activity, many essential elements would not be available to plants. Conversely, without the input of carbon and energy, primarily from photosynthesis by green plants, soil would consist ...

Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short‐term immobilization

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.

Porous starch as an effective carrier for sustained release and bioactivity protection of cannabidiol full spectrum oil

open access: yesCurrent Research in Food Science
Full-spectrum cannabidiol oil (CFSO) has attracted growing attention across industries for its multiple health benefits, but its poor water solubility and low bioavailability remain unresolved challenges.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Maize over Sixteen Years of Unbalanced Fertilization with Nitrogen and Potassium

open access: yesAgriculture
Adequate fertilization with nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) is essential to sustain crop productivity and minimize nitrogen losses to the environment. However, the increasing imbalance in fertilizer use in Poland, with low potassium inputs, may impair ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...
