NV centers as local probes of two-dimensional materials

open access: yes, 2021
Over the past decade, Nitrogen Vacancy (NV) color centers in diamond have emerged as powerful tools for quantum simulation and metrology. These atom-like defects, while confined to the diamond lattice, exhibit many properties of trapped atoms including ...

Infusible Extracellular Matrix Biomaterial Enhances Cell‐Specific Pro‐Repair Responses Following Acute Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We measure the cell‐specific responses of administering infusible ECM (iECM) in acute myocardial infarction (MI) across multiple timepoints. Using single‐nucleus RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics, we measure macrophage activation, fibroblast remodeling, increased vascular development, lymphangiogenesis, cardioprotection, and neurogenesis ...

Spatially controlled fabrication of single NV centers in IIa HPHT diamond

open access: yes, 2019
Single NV centers in HPHT IIa diamond are fabricated by helium implantation through lithographic masks. The concentrations of created NV centers in different growth sectors of HPHT are compared quantitatively.

Self‐Cooling Molecular Spin Qudits

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A material made of [GdEr] molecular dimers can encode a qudit and perform as a magnetic refrigerant. Microwave resonant pulses coherently manipulate its 16 spin states, while direct demagnetization measurements cool the material and a device down to temperatures below 1 K.

Bias‐Field Free Single‐Frequency CW‐ODMR of Nitrogen‐Vacancy Centers in Diamond for the Detection of Transient Electrical Signals

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Simplified quantum sensing technique for the detection of short electrical signals occurring in neuronal signaling or bioinspired technologies. We demonstrate a single frequency continuous‐wave optically detected magnetic resonance (CW‐ODMR) approach to sense signals that can be as short as 0.2 ms.

Additive Manufacturing of Patient‐Specific Intracranial Aneurysm Cell Culture Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Patient‐specific intracranial aneurysm models were fabricated using chocolate moulding, 3D printed water‐soluble cores, and direct resin 3D printing. Moulding PDMS around sacrificial cores made of chocolate or 3D printed water‐soluble resin yielded accurate, expandable, and endothelializable models that outperformed resin‐based approaches.

Charge state dynamics and optically detected electron spin resonance contrast of shallow nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2020
Nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond can be used for nanoscale sensing with atomic resolution and sensitivity; however, it has been observed that their properties degrade as they approach the diamond surface.
