Neurogenesis and astrogenesis contribute to vestibular compensation in the neurectomized adult cat: cellular and behavioral evidence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Neurogenesis occurs in some regions of the adult mammalian brain and gives rise to neurons integrated into functional networks. In pathological or postlesional conditions, neurogenesis and astrogenesis can also occur, as demonstrated in the deafferented ...

Retinal Pigment Epitheliopathy due to Sub‐Optimal Recycling of Vitamin A (RESORVA): A Novel RDH11‐Related Phenotype

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
RDH11 is a minor isoenzyme that catalyses the oxidation of 11‐cis‐retinol to 11‐cis‐retinal in the retinal pigment epithelium, alongside RDH5 and RDH10. Biallelic null variants in RDH11 lead to upregulation of RDH5 and RDH10 (transcriptional adaptation), maintaining 11‐cis‐retinal bioavailability, but still causing Retinal Pigment Epitheliopathy due to

Exploring the Impact of RNU4‐2 Defects on Neurodevelopmental Disorders in a Korean Population

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
Among 15 450 Korean individuals, noncoding RNU4‐2 variants, primarily the recurrent de novo n.64_65insT, make up 0.72% of neurodevelopmental disorders. Modeling and RNA‐seq suggest U4/U6 disruption and abnormal 5′ splice‐site selection, supporting routine use of WGS analysis for reanalyzing unresolved cases. ABSTRACT Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs)

Balancer‐assisted sling recovery of critical equine patients after general anaesthesia

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Background Traditional sling‐based systems to assist horses during recovery from general anaesthesia (GA) could be improved by adding a balancer to obtain a dynamic weight relief. Objectives To evaluate the applicability of a novel balancer‐assisted sling system during recovery of horses after GA and to report initial experiences with high‐risk
