An autoconfiguration strategy for very large scale long range wide area network deployments in smart cities

open access: yesIET Smart Cities, Volume 7, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
This paper proposes two deployment strategies (semi‐automatic and automatic) to simplify and streamline the process of activating and registering LoRaWAN devices in IoT networks. These strategies facilitate the deployment of large‐scale devices in smart cities, and their adoption can significantly enhance the deployment of LoRaWAN devices.

Monitoring and Optimizing Indoor Air Quality in Nearly Zero Energy Educational Buildings

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
In light of the challenges facing indoor air quality (IAQ) in nearly zero energy buildings (NZEBs) under extreme arid climates, this study focuses on the relationship between IAQ and NZEB compliance in educational buildings at the Technical College in Basra, Iraq.

A Quantitative Approach to Modeling the Overconsumption of Energy in Healthcare Buildings

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Healthcare buildings consume 2.6 times more energy than commercial buildings, primarily due to the operation of electromedical equipment and the stringent indoor environmental requirements for medical practice. This fact underscores the need for research aimed at addressing the high intensity of energy consumption.

Net Zero Energy‐Ready Buildings: A Canadian Construction Perspective and Evaluation

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, Volume 8, Issue 12, December 2024.
The design process for net‐zero energy‐ready buildings (NZErB) enhances energy resilience. This study assesses the potential of new and retrofit buildings in Canada to achieve NZErB status, using key performance indicators. Most new buildings and many retrofit ones meet level 5 in airtightness, TEDI, MEUI, and energy efficiency, with cellulose ...

Exploring the Diverse Landscape of Fungal Cytochrome P450‐Catalyzed Regio‐ and Stereoselective Dimerization of Diketopiperazines

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 11, Issue 26, July 10, 2024.
Five regio‐ and stereoselective P450s from distinct clades on the evolutionary tree are recognized for catalyzing the dimerization of indole‐containing diketopiperazines, as revealed through bioinformatic analysis and heterologous expression. Additionally, the chemical diversity of dimeric DKPs is broadened through synthetic biology approaches.

Legal challenges in the implementation of Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (nZEB) in Spain

open access: yesVitruvio: International Journal of Architectural Technology and Sustainability, 2017
Construction activities that include renovation work and energy retrofits add almost twice as much value as the construction of new buildings, and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) contribute more than 70% of the value added in the EU building ...
