Incommensurate phase in Λ-cobalt (III) sepulchrate trinitrate governed by highly competitive N–H···O and C–H···O hydrogen bond networks

open access: yes, 2021
Phase transitions in molecular crystals are often determined by intermolecular interactions. The cage complex of [Co(C12H30N8)]3+·3NO3– is reported to undergo a disorder–order phase transition at Tc1 ≈ 133 K upon cooling.

(R*)-1-Benzyl-3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)indoline-2-one

open access: yesIUCrData, 2017
The title compound, C21H17NO2, crystallizes with two independent molecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit. The indoline ring system is almost planar in both molecules (r.m.s. deviations = 0.020 and 0.024 Å for molecules A and B, respectively).

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Hydrogen in Nominally Anhydrous Crustal Minerals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Systematic infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance investigations of common crustal minerals were undertaken to better understand the geologic significance of minor components of structural hydrous species within these nominally anhydrous minerals ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

1H-Benzo[d]imidazol-3-ium (Z)-3-carboxyprop-2-enoate

open access: yesIUCrData, 2016
In the anion of the title molecular salt, C7H7N2+.C4H3O4−, an O—H...O hydrogen bond generates an S(7) graph-set motif while a pair of intermolecular N—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen bonds generate an R44(10) ring-motif.

Crystal structure of (E)-3-({6-[2-(4-chlorophenyl)ethenyl]-3-oxo-2,3-dihydropyridazin-4-yl}methyl)pyridin-1-ium chloride dihydrate

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E: Crystallographic Communications, 2022
In the title compound, C18H15ClN3O+·Cl−·2H2O, three intramolecular hydrogen bonds are observed, N—H...O, O—H...Cl and O—H...O. In the crystal, molecules are connected by C—H...Cl and N—H...O hydrogen bonds.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
