The core helium flash revisited III. From Pop I to Pop III stars

open access: yes, 2010
Degenerate ignition of helium in low-mass stars at the end of the red giant branch phase leads to dynamic convection in their helium cores. One-dimensional (1D) stellar modeling of this intrinsically multi-dimensional dynamic event is likely to be ...

Molecular Characterisation of Escherichia coli Collected From an Urban River in Johannesburg, South Africa

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 5, October 2025.
Escherichia coli isolates from the Jukskei River in Johannesburg, South Africa, are genetically diverse, indicating multiple contamination sources and potential cross‐environmental transmission between the river, humans and livestock. Moreover, the presence of pathogenic E.

Incomplete carbon-oxygen detonation in Type Ia supernovae

open access: yes, 2011
Incomplete carbon-oxygen detonation with reactions terminating after burning of 12C in the leading 12C + 12C reaction (C-detonation) may occur in the low density outer layers of white dwarfs exploding as Type Ia supernovae (SNIa).

Effect of a ceruminolytic ear cleaner on clinical, microbiological and ear canal microbiome evolution in canine erythemato‐ceruminous otitis externa associated with proliferation of Malassezia yeasts

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 36, Issue 5, Page 668-678, October 2025.
Background – Erythemato‐ceruminous otitis externa (ECOE) is commonly associated with Malassezia spp. and microbial imbalance. Hypothesis/Objective – To assess the clinical performance of an ear cleaner in dogs suffering from ECOE associated with Malassezia spp. overgrowth and to measure its impact on the microbiota. Conclusions and Clinical Relevance –

First report of a papillomavirus‐induced viral plaque in the mouth of a dog

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 36, Issue 5, Page 703-706, October 2025.
A mass that was histologically consistent with a pigmented viral plaque developed in the mouth of a dog. Canis familiaris papillomavirus type 16, which has been detected in cutaneous viral plaques, was amplified from the lesion. This is the first report of an oral viral plaque in a dog.

Effects of spin-phonon interaction on the properties of in high-T$_C$ superconductors

open access: yes, 2006
The mechanism of spin-phonon coupling in high-T$_C$ copper oxides is explored from band calculations on La$_{(2-x)}$Sr$_x$CuO$_4$ and HgBa$_2$CuO$_4$ systems.

Integrating Molecular Dynamics and Machine Learning for Solvation‐Guided Electrolyte Optimization in Lithium Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 36, September 25, 2025.
A data‐driven workflow integrating molecular dynamics simulations and machine learning enables efficient discovery of optimized lithium battery electrolytes. Key structural descriptors are screened for predicting coordination behavior and ion transport. Gaussian process regression identifies an optimal feature space, guiding rational electrolyte design.

Rydberg-Klein-Rees 1-Sigma-positive potential curve turning points for the isotopes of carbon monoxide [PDF]

open access: yes
First order RKR turning points were computed for (C-12)O16, (C-12)O17, (C-13)O16, (C-12)O18, and (C-13)O18 for vibrational levels up to v = 40. These turning points should be useful in the numerical computation of matrix elements of powers of the ...
