Scaling of interpretation with OBIA with backscatter data

open access: yes, 2017
Multibeam Echosounder systems provide two datasets: a bathymetry grid and backscatter imagery. These can be combined together to produce an interpretation of these data using OBIA. The resulting interpretation divides the data into classes of similar attributes.

Multispectral Data and LiDAR for Enhanced Georeferencing of Gdanska Glowa's 17th‐Century Fortifications

open access: yesArchaeometry, Volume 68, Issue 1, Page 94-106, February 2026.
ABSTRACT This study presents a novel remote sensing method to detect 17th‐century environmental elements associated with the historical fortifications of Gdanska Glowa in Poland. By integrating 10‐band multispectral imaging, high‐resolution (1 m) digital elevation models, vegetation metrics and random forest classification within Google Earth Engine ...

Satellite Screening of Tailings Dams With Deep Learning Model

open access: yesInternational Journal of Energy Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Tailings dam management is increasingly critical as mining operations extend to greater depths and generate more complex waste streams. To support scalable monitoring, this study establishes a harmonized benchmark of YOLOv5, YOLOv6, YOLOv8, and YOLOv10 for automated detection of tailings dams using high‐resolution satellite imagery.

The extraction of coastline using OBIA and GIS

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2010
The aim of the paper was to test the possibility of using object based image analyses of Landsat satellite data for worldwide assessment of sea coast changes over time. The coastline in this project was defined as the seaward margin of dunes or land vegetation. The proposed method uses Red and IRed channels of Landsat images for segmentation.

Multitask GLocal OBIA-Mamba for Sentinel-2 Landcover Mapping

open access: yesIEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters
Although Sentinel-2 based land use and land cover (LULC) classification is critical for various environmental monitoring applications, it is a very difficult task due to some key data challenges (e.g., spatial heterogeneity, context information, signature ambiguity). This paper presents a novel Multitask Glocal OBIA-Mamba (MSOM) for enhanced Sentinel-2
