Anti‐Protestantism was one of the reasons for the revival of missions during the interwar period. By the 1960s, however, Protestants were less and less often mentioned as a threat to missionary efforts, and the decline in inter‐confessional tensions was increasingly considered a relic of the past.

During World War I, Protestant churches in Australia, on the whole, enthusiastically supported the war effort. The Queensland Presbyterian Church was a significant exception. This study analyses discord and tensions among its clergymen about what constituted an appropriate response to the war.
