Discourse accessibility constraints in children's processing of object relative clauses

open access: yes, 2019
A study on children's comprehension and on-line processing of object relative clauses in which a 1sr or a 3rd-person pronoun is embedded, as compared to object relatives without a ...

The heterodimeric amino acid transporters (HAT) of the SLC7/SLC3 family: A structure−function relationships and relevance to human pathology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heterodimeric amino acid transporters consist of SLC7 and SLC3 family proteins arranged in a conserved structural organization. They regulate nutrient transport across cell membranes, supporting essential cellular functions. These transporters also contribute to xenobiotic/drug uptake and distribution.

'You only have one chance to get it right': A qualitative study of relatives' experiences of caring at home for a family member with terminal cancer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: Relatives looking after a terminally ill family member at home face numerous challenges. Studies into relatives’ experiences of home caregiving have been criticised for their descriptive nature and lack of theoretical underpinnings.

A context‐dependent modulatory role for eIF6 in acquired resistance to vemurafenib in melanoma

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Acquired resistance to vemurafenib upregulates the translation factor eIF6 in melanoma cells. Silencing eIF6 in resistant cells reduces proliferation and partially restores drug sensitivity, whereas its overexpression increases sensitivity across melanoma lines regardless of BRAF status, via modulation of mTOR, S6K, and MAPK signaling.

Resumptive Relatives and Passive Relatives in Italian Cochlear-Implanted and Normal Hearing Children [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This study investigates two answering strategies (namely object relatives with resumptive elements and passive relatives) provided by a group of hearing-impaired children using a cochlear implant (CI) and two normal hearing control groups in a production

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...

Going viral − Virus‐targeting nanobodies for research, diagnostics and therapy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The increasing prevalence of viral diseases represents a major threat for global human health. Nanobodies, small binding fragments derived from camelid heavy‐chain antibodies, offer versatile tools for viral research, diagnostics, and antiviral therapy.

Comparing the paths of Hedgehog release in artificial and natural settings

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hh morphogens require solubilization factors to overcome their tight association with the plasma membrane and signal to distant cells, but the precise functions of these factors are controversial. Here, we use published in vivo observations as the most relevant evidence to test their suggested functions and discuss contradictions and gaps between in ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...
