Wave-dissipating Performance of Twin-plate Breakwater Under Oblique Random Waves

open access: yes, 2017
The present study investigates experimentally the wave-dissipating performance of twin-plate breakwater under oblique random waves. Through extensive model tests, the effects of the relative plate width and relative wave height on the dissipating ...

Stable Magnetic Nanodomains Engineered Via Ga+‐ion Irradiation For Deterministic Sequential Switching

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Tiny magnetic regions separated by domain walls can store data, but controlling them precisely is difficult. We use focused ion beams to create nanoscale “anisotropy wells” that pin these walls from both sides. This bidirectional pinning holds domains stable in either direction, even with no field applied.

Results of inferior oblique muscle surgery in superior oblique paralysis

open access: yes, 2003
The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of inferior oblique muscle recession in certain cases of superior oblique paralysis. Twenty-three patients with moderate hyperaction of the inferior oblique muscle, secondary to paralysis of the superior ...

A Compact Resistively Loaded Metamaterial Absorber for 2.4 GHz RF Energy Harvesting With Impedance‐Matched Rectifier Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A compact resistively loaded metamaterial absorber captures RF energy at 2.4 GHz and directs most of the accepted power to modeled loads. The resonant response is confirmed experimentally for the fabricated absorber, while an impedance‐matched rectifier is evaluated through simulation. The stage‐wise results distinguish absorber, rectifier, and cascade

A Unifying Approach to Self‐Organizing Systems Interacting via Conservation Laws

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
The article develops a unified way to model and analyze self‐organizing systems whose interactions are constrained by conservation laws. It represents physical/biological/engineered networks as graphs and builds projection operators (from incidence/cycle structure) that enforce those constraints and decompose network variables into constrained versus ...

Data‐Efficient Cycle‐Level Capacity Prediction Using 1D Deep Convolutional Network

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
We introduce DeepBat, a deep learning framework featuring a 1D convolutional backbone designed to extract latent degradation patterns from a microstructurally diverse electrode dataset. By learning complex formulation–performance relationships, the model accurately predicts long‐term specific discharge capacity using limited early‐cycle data, providing

Adaptive Collision Sensitivity for Efficient and Safe Human–Robot Collaboration

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
An adaptive collision‐sensitivity framework uses each robot link's effective mass to estimate contact forces online and decide when collaborative robots should stop or continue. Tested on simulated and real UR10e and simulated KUKA arms, it maintains conservative force estimates while reducing unnecessary stops and increasing task productivity. What is

Stochastic Locomotion Emerging From Body–Environment Interactions in a Mexican Jumping Bean–Inspired Robot

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Inspired by the Mexican jumping bean, this study presents a centimeter‐scale, electronics‐free robot that merges principles from both the animal and plant kingdoms. A thermo‐responsive actuator mimicking larval motion, enclosed within a uniquely shaped plant‐seed‐inspired shell, generates jumping, rolling, flipping, sliding, and climbing through ...

Multirobot Aerial Soft Manipulator for Floating Litter Collection

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A multirobot aerial manipulator enables autonomous floating litter collection by controlling the shape of a flexible rope equipped with a hook‐based tool. Adaptive rope‐shape planning enhances grasping performance while reducing tension, demonstrating the potential of aerial robots for floating litter removal. Removing floating litter from water bodies

Oblique versus transverse anastomotic stricture in gastric pull up: an open-label controlled trial [PDF]

open access: yes
Background: Survival in esophageal cancer can be improved by surgery. In the palliative surgery for esophageal cancer, the fundus is anastomosed to the esophageal remnant, which is routinely transverse after esophagectomy.
