Experiments on oblique shock interactions with planar mixing regions [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Experimental studies using supersonic mixing configurations have revealed varying degrees of shock-induced mixing augmentation. Increases in turbulent activity through shock impingement have been observed; however, it appears that such changes in ...

Fast Hydrogel Micro‐Actuators Driven by Electric Fields

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We report the fabrication of chemically programmable electroactuating microstructures through the first integration of two‐photon polymerization with electrically actuated gelatin methacrylate‐based hydrogels. By tailoring the charge of the polymer network, we demonstrate programmable polarity‐dependent bending, enabling microstructures that ...

Spectrally Programmable Spin‐Polarized Photocurrents in WSe2–NiPS3 Magnetic van der Waals Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Heterostructure photodiode devices of p‐type WSe2 with n‐type NiPS3 constructs spectrally protected spin‐polarized photocurrents. The energy of the excitation photon serves as an independent control parameter for spin‐selective photocurrent generation. ABSTRACT Efficient generation and control of spin‐polarized currents in semiconductors remain central

Oblique Structures Developed in Homogeneous Anisotropic Material

open access: yes, 1973
Layers of plasticene lubricated with talcum powder were compressed in directions perpendicular to the layering. Normal kink bands oblique to the principal compression direction were produced.

Designing a freeform optic for oblique illumination

open access: yes, 2017
The Functional Freeform Fitting (F4) method is utilized to design a freeform optic for oblique illumination of Mark Rothko's Green on Blue (1956). Shown are preliminary results from an iterative freeform design process; from problem definition and ...

Programmable Crack Networks for Wide‐Range and Reversible Strain Sensing in Vertically Oriented van der Waals Molybdenum Disulfide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Vertically oriented van der Waals MoS2 thin films enable a mechanically programmable crack network for strain sensing. The initial mechanical programming protocol establishes a programmed crack configuration along weak interlayer and interdomain interfaces.

OIASA application to oblique radio-sounding data recorded in Korea

open access: yes, 2017
The Oblique Ionogram Automatic Scaling Algorithm (OIASA) has been applied to a data set of oblique ionograms recorded by the Vertical Incidence Pulsed Ionospheric Radar, Version 2 (VIPIR2) ionosonde receiver in Korea.

Two‐Dimensional Isotropic Spatial Differentiation Through Complete Polarization Control

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
This work enables two‐dimensional isotropic spatial differentiation at planar interfaces over a wide range of incident angles by extending the output polarization from linear to elliptical. The choice of incident angle can be used to balance broader spectral response at low angles and higher edge‐detection efficiency at larger angles.

Dielectric Permittivity Tensor of Muscovite for Next Generation All Van Der Waals Broadband Photonic Components

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐index and low‐loss vdW muscovite represents an emerging robust dielectric platform for the creation of next‐generation all‐vdW nanophotonic architectures. Its utilization as a low‐index building‐block in all‐vdW multilayers enables extreme optical contrast when paired with MoS2, paving the way to the realization of few‐layer ultrathin DBS ...
