A numerical and experimental study of oblique impact of ultra-high pressure abrasive water jet

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2016
An investigation of the abrasive water jet with an emphasis on the oblique impact of abrasive particles on the target plate is performed. Ultra-high jet pressure necessitates a close examination of the phenomena featured by small spatial and temporal ...

Reduction of Wave Overtopping and Force Impact at Harbor Quays Due to Very Oblique Waves

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
Physical model experiments were conducted in a wave tank at Flanders Hydraulics Research, Antwerp, Belgium, to characterize the wave overtopping and impact force on vertical quay walls and sloping sea dike (1:2.5) under very oblique wave attack (angle ...

Type of residual astigmatism and uncorrected visual acuity in pseudophakic eyes

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
It is difficult to assess the pure impact of the type of residual astigmatism (with-the-rule; WTR, against-the-rule; ATR, and oblique astigmatism) on uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) in pseudophakic eyes due to different age distribution of ...

Self‐Hybridized Exciton‐Polariton Photodetectors From Layered Metal‐Organic Chalcogenolates

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐hybridized exciton‐polariton photodetectors are demonstrated using high refractive index mithrene, eliminating the need for top mirrors. This simplified architecture enables tunable sub‐bandgap photodetection via lower exciton‐polariton states and enhanced carrier transport through ultrafast polariton group velocities.

Modeling and Nonlinear Response of the Cam-Follower Oblique-Impact System

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2016
In order to quickly and accurately analyze the complex behavior of cam-follower oblique-impact system, a mathematical model which can describe separation, impact, and contact was established in this paper.

Structural record of an oblique impact

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Science Letters, 2006
Abstract Most impactors strike their target at an oblique angle. The common criterion for identifying craters formed by an oblique impact is the pattern of the ejecta blanket. On Earth, however, ejecta blankets are rarely preserved and other morphological, structural or geophysical criteria are needed.

A Versatile Engineering Platform for the Fabrication of Prosthetic Venous Valves Using Electrospinning

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Percutaneous prosthetic venous valves are fabricated by embedding stents in an electrospun matrix that extends luminally to form leaflets. The design shields leaflets from hyperplastic cells, isolates struts from blood contact, and avoids discrete anchoring points.

Wound Geometry Determines Whether Aligned‐Fiber Scaffolds Accelerate or Impede Diabetic Wound Healing: A Biased Random Walk Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Wound closure is governed by geometry‐orientation coupling: aligned fibers speed migration along their axis but hinder perpendicular advance. In vivo diabetic wound experiments with composition‐matched fibrin, combined with an anisotropic diffusion (biased random‐walk) model, quantify this trade‐off and generate a healing landscape.

Design a new energy absorber longitudinal member and compare with S-shaped design to enhance the energy absorption capability

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2018
A numerical investigation study of both direct and oblique crush loading was implemented. The study used ductile metallic alloy (mild steel A36) and magnesium alloy (AZ31). The study used hexagonal tube as longitudinal members.
