Observation of vibrating systems at different time instants [PDF]
In this paper, we obtain new observability inequalities for the vibrating string. This work was motivated by a recent paper of A. Szijártó and J.

Inverse observability inequalities for integrodifferential equations in square domains [PDF]
In this paper we will consider oscillations of square viscoelastic membranes by adding to the wave equation another term, which takes into account the memory. To this end, we will study a class of integrodifferential equations in square domains. By using

Robust Distributed Observers for Simultaneous State and Fault Estimation over Sensor Networks [PDF]
This paper focuses on simultaneous estimation of states and faults for a linear time-invariant (LTI) system observed by sensor networks. Each sensor node is equipped with an observer, which uses only local measurements and local interaction with ...

Observability inequalities for transport equations through Carleman estimates [PDF]
We consider the transport equation $\ppp_t u(x,t) + H(t)\cdot \nabla u(x,t) = 0$ in $\OOO\times(0,T),$ where $T>0$ and $\OOO\subset \R^d $ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary $\ppp\OOO$.

Observability inequalities and measurable sets [PDF]
This paper presents two observability inequalities for the heat equation over \Omega\times (0,T) . In the first one, the observation is from a subset of positive measure in \Omega\times (0,T)

Inequalities for complementarity in observed statistics [PDF]
We provide an analysis of complementarity via a suitably designed classicalmodel that leads to a set of inequalities that can be tested by means ofunsharp measurements. We show that, if the measured statistics does notfulfill the inequalities it is equivalent to the lack of a joint distribution for theincompatible observables.

Observability inequalities for degenerate transport equations [PDF]
In this paper we prove an observability inequality for a degenerate transport equation. First we introduce a local in time Carleman estimate for the degenerate equation, then we apply it to obtain a global in time observability inequality by using also an energy estimate.

Controllability of a Family of Nonlinear Population Dynamics Models
Considering a nonlinear dynamical system, we study the nonlinear infinite-dimensional system obtained by grafting an operator A and an age structure. This system is such that the nonlinearity is at the level of births.

Null controllability of a coupled model in population dynamics [PDF]
We are concerned with the null controllability of a linear coupled population dynamics system or the so-called prey-predator model with Holling type I functional response of predator wherein both equations are structured in age and space.

Weak damping for the Korteweg-de Vries equation
For more than 20 years, the Korteweg–de Vries equation has been intensively explored from the mathematical point of view. Regarding control theory, when adding an internal force term in this equation, it is well known that the Korteweg–de Vries equation ...
