Solvent Hydrogen Bonding Determines Adsorption Geometry of Trimesic Acid on Cu

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Water reorients adsorbate molecules. Combined tip‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy, density functional theory and molecular dynamics simulations reveal the adsorption geometry of trimesic acid on Cu. Subtle adsorbate–substrate–solvent energy differences due to hydrogen bonding dictate molecular orientation at solid/liquid and solid/gas interfaces, providing

LHAASO Observations of Mrk 421 during 2021 March–2024 March: A Comprehensive Very-high-energy Catalog of Multitimescale Outbursts and Its Time-averaged Behavior

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) monitors sources within its field of view for up to 7 hr daily, achieving a duty cycle exceeding 98% and an annual point-source sensitivity of 1.5% Crab units (CU) in the very-high-energy (VHE) band.

Automatic Determination of Quasicrystalline Patterns from Microscopy Images

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This work introduces a user‐friendly machine learning tool to automatically extract and visualize quasicrystalline tiling patterns from atomically resolved microscopy images. It uses feature clustering, nearest‐neighbor analysis, and support vector machines. The method is broadly applicable to various quasicrystalline systems and is released as part of

Deep Learning‐Assisted Coherent Raman Scattering Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
The analytical capabilities of coherent Raman scattering microscopy are augmented through deep learning integration. This synergistic paradigm improves fundamental performance via denoising, deconvolution, and hyperspectral unmixing. Concurrently, it enhances downstream image analysis including subcellular localization, virtual staining, and clinical ...

Ultra‐Thin and Highly Insulating Aromatic Monolayers by N‐Heterocyclic Carbenes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
By using N‐heterocyclic carbenes extremally insulating and at the same time as thin as 0.3 nm molecular films are formed. The charge transport calculations indicate absence of destructive quantum interference effect which was so far the only way to suppress conductivity in aromatic molecules.

Peter Millman and the study of meteor spectra at Harvard University [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
During the 1930s meteor astronomy entered a new era when the Canadian astronomer, Peter Millman, began investigating the spectra of meteors for his post-graduate studies at Harvard University. Whilst experimenting with different lenses, prisms, shutters,

Advanced Experiment Design Strategies for Drug Development

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Wang et al. analyze 592 drug development studies published between 2020 and 2024 that applied design of experiments methodologies. The review surveys both classical and emerging approaches—including Bayesian optimization and active learning—and identifies a critical gap between advanced experimental strategies and their practical adoption in ...
