Observer Metamerism Quantification and Visualization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
An observer metamerism quantification method to describe the potentiality of observer metamerism of any stimulus pairs with respect to the population variation of color-normal observers is introduced. The method is further extended for use in quantifying

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Ideal observer for heading judgments

open access: yes, 1996
Several aspects of the viewing situation affect the ability to determine heading from optical flow. These include the amount of depth variation and number of texture elements in the scene, the location and amount of the visual field stimulated, and the ...

Superb microvascular imaging ultrasound of the knee in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis—a repeatability study

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics
IntroductionJuvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the commonest rheumatologic disease in children and frequently affects the knee joint. Synovial inflammation and tenosynovitis are key pathological features, and ultrasound plays an increasingly ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Observer variation in detecting lymphadenopathy on chest radiography

open access: yes, 2023
Objective. To assess inter- and intra-observer agreement in the detection of lymphadcnopathy on chest radiography in children at risk for tuberculosis. Methods Dianostic test. Chest radiography using antero-posterior and lateral films. Observers.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Observer variation in interactive computerized morphometry.

open access: yes, 1986
The validity of a test system in morphometric histopathology depends on the variation sources involved. Biological variation is one of the variation sources, but is also the object to be studied with morphometry.
