Developing Autonomous Observing Systems for Micronutrient Trace Metals

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2019
Trace metal micronutrients are integral to the functioning of marine ecosystems and the export of particulate carbon to the deep ocean. Although much progress has been made in mapping the distributions of metal micronutrients throughout the ocean over ...

Accelerating assimilation development for new observing systems using EFSO [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2018
To successfully assimilate data from a new observing system, it is necessary to develop appropriate data selection strategies, assimilating only the generally useful data. This development work is usually done by trial and error using observing system

Towards the integration of animal-borne instruments into global ocean observing systems. [PDF]

open access: yesGlob Chang Biol, 2020
Marine animals are increasingly instrumented with environmental sensors that provide large volumes of oceanographic data. Here, we conduct an innovative and comprehensive global analysis to determine the potential contribution of animal‐borne instruments

Deep Learning-Based Unmanned Surveillance Systems for Observing Water Levels

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Traditional surveillance systems for observing water levels are often complex, costly, and time-consuming. In this paper, we developed a low-cost unmanned surveillance system consisting of remote measuring stations and a monitoring center.

Observing System Evaluations Using GODAE Systems [PDF]

open access: yesOceanography, 2009
Global ocean forecast systems, developed under the Global Ocean Data Assimilation Experiment (GODAE), are a powerful means of assessing the impact of different components of the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS).

Collaborative Automation and IoT Technologies for Coastal Ocean Observing Systems

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2021
Coastal observing systems are typically nationally funded and built around national priorities. As a result, there are presently significant differences between countries in terms of sustainability, observing capacity and technologies, as well as methods

The Observability in Unobservable Systems

open access: yes2022 IEEE 17th International Conference on Control & Automation (ICCA), 2022
In this paper, we introduce the concept of observability of targeted state variables for systems that may not be fully observable. For their estimation, we introduce and exemplify a deep filter, which is a neural network specifically designed for the estimation of targeted state variables without computing the trajectory of the entire system.
