Scaling Up From Regional Case Studies to a Global Harmful Algal Bloom Observing System
Harmful algal blooms (HABs) produce local impacts in nearly all freshwater and marine systems. They are a problem that occurs globally requiring an integrated and coordinated scientific understanding, leading to regional responses and solutions.

Glaciers have melted rapidly in the Yarlung Zangbo River Basin due to recent climate change, which has accelerated the expansion of glacial lakes. We performed a systematic survey of glacial lakes in the Yarlung Zangbo River Basin using the Google Earth ...

AbstractThe notion of observation plays a central role in current theories of concurrency. In this paper we investigate observation from the point of view of observation structures and observations systems; the former represent the observable entities, the later specify the allowed observations and their outcome.

Requirements for an Integrated in situ Atlantic Ocean Observing System From Coordinated Observing System Simulation Experiments [PDF]
A coordinated effort, based on observing system simulation experiments (OSSEs), has been carried out by four European ocean forecasting centers for the first time, in order to provide insights on the present and future design of the in situ Atlantic ...

Observability of nonlinear systems
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the problem of observability of nonlinear systems. Two sufficient conditions of global observability of nonlinear systems are presented: (1) the ratio condition which is the generalization of Fujisawa and Kuh's (1971) ratio condition of circuit theory, (2) the strongly positive semidefinite condition.

Black Sea Observing System [PDF]
The ultimate goal of modern operational oceanography are end user oriented products with high scientific quality. Beneficiaries are the governmental services, coast and offshore based enterprises and research institutions that make use of the products generated by operational oceanography. Direct users are coastal managers, shipping, search and rescue,

Observing non-ergodicity due to kinetic constraints in tilted Fermi-Hubbard chains [PDF]
The thermalization of isolated quantum many-body systems is deeply related to fundamental questions of quantum information theory. While integrable or many-body localized systems display non-ergodic behavior due to extensively many conserved quantities ...
