Observer forms for perspective systems [PDF]
The authors study the estimation of three-dimensional information from two-dimensional images in computer vision. They show that a perspective system can be transformed into two observer forms and give methods for constructing the transformation that lead to straightforward observer design. The designs are demonstrated by simulations.

Drift-aware sea ice thickness maps from satellite remote sensing [PDF]
The standard approach to deriving gridded sea ice thickness (SIT) from satellite altimeters is to aggregate the original along-track SIT estimates over a 1-month period to achieve sufficient coverage across the Arctic.

Ocean and Coastal Acidification off New England and Nova Scotia [PDF]
New England coastal and adjacent Nova Scotia shelf waters have a reduced buffering capacity because of significant freshwater input, making the region’s waters potentially more vulnerable to coastal acidification. Nutrient loading and heavy precipitation

Observability of nonlinear systems [PDF]
Summary: Observability of a general nonlinear system -- given in terms of an ODE \(\dot {x}=f(x)\) and an output map \(y=c(x)\) -- is defined as in linear system theory (i.e.\,if \(f(x)=Ax\) and \(c(x)=Cx\)). In contrast to standard treatment of the subject we present a criterion for observability which is not a generalization of a known linear test ...

100 Years of Progress in Atmospheric Observing Systems
Although atmospheric observing systems were already an important part of meteorology before the American Meteorological Society was established in 1919, the past 100 years have seen a stead...

Observing the Quantum Mpemba Effect in Quantum Simulations. [PDF]
The nonequilibrium physics of many-body quantum systems harbors various unconventional phenomena. In this Letter, we experimentally investigate one of the most puzzling of these phenomena-the quantum Mpemba effect, where a tilted ferromagnet restores its

Observing Ocean Boundary Currents: Lessons Learned from Six Regions with Mature Observational and Modeling Systems [PDF]
Ocean boundary currents are complex and highly variable systems that play key roles in connecting the open and coastal ocean through cross-slope circulation and upwelling of nutrient-rich water.

Evaluating Approximations of River Channel Shape Using a National Cross‐Section Database
Many hydrologic applications require basic information on the size and shape of river channels, but measuring cross section (XS) geometry in the field or via remote sensing can be costly and often provides only partial coverage.

ABSTRACT Primary lung carcinomas and bronchial carcinoid tumors (BC) are very rare malignancies in childhood. While typical BC and mucoepidermoid carcinomas are mostly low‐grade, localized tumors with a more favorable prognosis than in adults, necessitating avoidance of overtreatment, adenocarcinomas of the lung are often diagnosed at advanced disease ...
