Obstructive azoospermia is an important reason for male infertility. The obstruction can be caused by congenital, postinflammatory or iatrogenic factors (herniotomy, orchidopexy, vasectomy). Azoospermia (total absense of spermatozoa in semen samples) is the cause of about 2% of infertility but it can be found in 10% of male infertility cases. Azoospermia can result from absent sperm production (secretory, non-obstructive azoospermia) or obstruction of the genital tract (obstructive azoospermia).
