Early SLP Involvement in Postoperative Tracheostomy Care Significantly Reduces Hospital Costs
In a cohort of 228 patients undergoing open tracheostomy, earlier speech‐language pathologist (SLP) consultation was associated with shorter time to decannulation and reduced hospital LOS. Each day earlier that SLP consultation occurred was associated with estimated cost savings of $1039–$2221 per patient‐day depending on level of care.
