A Comparative Study of Asynchronous and Synchronous OCDMA Systems

IEEE Systems Journal, 2021
This article presents a detailed survey on both asynchronous and synchronous Optical Code-Division Multiple-Access (OCDMA) systems based on 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D codes, distinctively. Accordingly, different coding schemes along with their multiplexing capacity, correlation features, advantages and drawbacks are addressed and benchmarked.

Sourceless colorless OCDMA-PONs

2009 14th OptoElectronics and Communications Conference, 2009
A new architecture for OCDMA-based PON systems is proposed, that allows contentionless, asynchronous access at 10Gb/s data rate, without using any laser source at the users' premises.

Phase and polarization diversity for OCDMA

2006 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and 2006 Quantum Electronics and Laser Science Conference, 2006
A phase sensitive receiver for Optical Code Division Multiplexing (OCDMA) waveforms generated by spectral phase coding (SPC) using phase and polarization diversity offers expanded system capacity due to low values of multiple access interference (MAI).

Demonstration of DPSK-OCDMA with balanced detection to improve MAI and beat noise tolerance in OCDMA system

2006 Optical Fiber Communication Conference and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2006
For the first time, we demonstrate a coherent OCDMA experiment using differential phase-shift-keyed (DPSK) data format with balanced detection. More active users could be accommodated in DPSK-OCDMA due to its better tolerance to multiple access interference (MAI) and coherent beat noise.

Combined TDMA/OCDMA with iterative multistage detection

2000 IEEE International Conference on Communications. ICC 2000. Global Convergence Through Communications. Conference Record, 2002
We present a multiple access technique which accommodates more than N users on a channel whose bandwidth is N times the bandwidth of the individual user signals. It makes use of two sets of orthogonal signal waveforms, one for the first N users, and one for the additional users. An iterative multistage detection technique is used to cancel interference

Bit error probability of 2D-OCDMA systems

2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2015
In this paper, the probability distribution and error probability of the detected energy of a 2D-OCDMA system are calculated. Code set independent upper and lower bounds for the bit error probability are obtained considering beat noise as the main factor limiting performance of the system.

OCDMA Systems and the Enabling Technologies

Asia Communications and Photonics Conference and Exhibition, 2009
OCDMA system are reviewed, particularly focusing on asynchronous coherent technology. Key techniques enabling asynchronous coherent OCDMA are discussed, including en/decoding techniques such as ultra-long superstructured FBG and multi-port encoder/decoder; differential-phase-shift-keying (DPSK) modulation, and forward-error-correction and M-ary OCDM ...

Optical Approach to Avionic Platforms Based on OCDMA

OFC/NFOEC 2007 - 2007 Conference on Optical Fiber Communication and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2007
We built scalable OCDMA platform under DARPA contract and delivered to Lockheed-Martin for additional testing. Demonstrated platform enables secure communications among users using an optical XOR gate at OC-24 with 10-12 or better raw BER.

OCDMA: Study and Future Aspects

2014
This chapter is on the OCDMA technique that shows light on the present trends of coding and its future aspects. The challenges that are faced by this technology are also documented. This technique employs newly developed three-dimensional codes based on optical orthogonal codes and codes from algebra theory, and their performance is evaluated on two ...

Network Scaling Using OCDMA Over OTDM

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2012
We present analysis and proof-of-concept field demonstration of an incoherent optical code-division multiple access over an optical time-division multiple access system. The performance analysis which includes power budget and scalability calculations show scalability improvements without any significant system performance degradation.
