Abstract Glacial‐interglacial cycles increased in length from about 41 to 100 thousand years during the Middle Pleistocene Transition (MPT) about 1.5 to 0.8 million years ago. This took place in step with strong global cooling after several million years of weaker cooling.

Abstract Alkalinity is a key regulator of carbon dioxide (CO2 ${\text{CO}}_{2}$) dynamics in freshwater systems, influencing both dissolved inorganic carbon speciation and the buffering capacity of water. Despite its importance, alkalinity in freshwater environments remains comparatively underexplored relative to ocean systems.

Changes in DOM composition influence prokaryotic species growth in the Mediterranean Sea, shaping their metabolic responses and organic matter processing. In our study, higher DOP consumption and alkaline phosphatase activity led to the accumulation of recalcitrant DOM, highlighting how microbial community shifts drive distinct pathways in carbon ...

ABSTRACT The geographic genetic structure and distribution within species are shaped by factors such as dynamic tectonic activity and topographic changes associated with climate change. We used the largely flightless, freshwater‐dependent beetle Zaitzeviaria ovata (Elmidae) as a model to investigate how ancient topography and dynamic geological history

Global Drivers of Phytoplankton Phenology Trends
Observations and a global biogeochemical model were used to examine recent shifts in phytoplankton phenology at the global scale. Sea surface temperature trends emerge as the strongest predictor of these changes, relative to the other drivers considered, and are associated with earlier initiation, later termination, and longer growing periods ...
