Facet‐Specific PbS Quantum Dot Passivation Using Halide Perovskites for SWIR Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
PbS quantum dots (QDs) are emerging as powerful short‐wave infrared photodetectors, yet the passivation mechanism of large QDs by perovskites ‐ critical for their stability ‐ remains unexplained. Here, we unveil the ligand structure of CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPI)‐passivated 4‐nm PbS QDs using FTIR, XPS, SEM, NMR, and DFT.

Field Intercomparison of Radiometer Measurements for Ocean Colour Validation [PDF]

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
A field intercomparison was conducted at the Acqua Alta Oceanographic Tower (AAOT) in the northern Adriatic Sea, from 9 to 19 July 2018 to assess differences in the accuracy of in- and above-water radiometer measurements used for the validation of ocean colour products. Ten measurement systems were compared.

Tunable‐Threshold UV Dosimetry With Programmable Luminescent Tags via Oxygen‐Mediated Room‐Temperature Phosphorescence

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A fully organic UV threshold dosimeter is developed by exploiting the oxygen‐sensitive room‐temperature phosphorescence of a purely organic emitter in a polymer matrix. Upon reaching a specific cumulative UV dose, photochemical oxygen depletion triggers a sharp, high‐contrast emission.

Direct Measurement of the Singlet Lifetime and Photoexcitation Behavior of the Boron Vacancy Center in Hexagonal Boron Nitride

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Negatively charged boron vacancy defects in hexagonal boron nitride promise near‐surface quantum sensing, but their internal spin transition rates are only partly understood. This work directly measures the defect's singlet‐state lifetime, 15(3) ns, using a nanosecond rise‐time dual‐pulse photoluminescence‐recovery method, and shows that high laser ...

Naphthyridine‐Based Donor–Acceptor Boron Difluoride Complexes Targeting Red Emission in Organic Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Four donor–acceptor boron difluoride complexes based on triphenylamine donor and a naphthyridine acceptor units were synthesized, studied, and applied as OLED emitters. They exhibit pronounced intramolecular charge transfer character, balanced charge transport properties, and tunable emission. Near‐unity PLQYs are achieved for selected compounds, while

Bayesian‐Optimized Dual‐Mode Luminescence‐Based Optical Thermometry Enabled by Negative Thermal Expansion in Lu2(MoO4)3:Yb–Er–Tm Phosphor

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A Bayesian optimization framework identifies the ideal composition for Lu2(MoO4)3:Yb–Er–Tm phosphors with minimal experimental trials. By leveraging the host's negative thermal expansion, the material achieves remarkable thermal quenching compensation.

Circularly Polarized Red‐NIR Emission With High Dissymmetry Factor From Achiral [Mo6I8(OCOC2F5)6]2− Cluster Anion Embedded in a Bent‐Core Liquid Crystal Host

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Associating a chiral bent core liquid crystal molecule, that self‐assembles into helical nanofilaments, with an achiral red‐NIR phosphorescent octahedral molybdenum cluster produces a hybrid material exhibiting efficient red‐NIR circularly polarized emission under UV excitation.

Seafarer citizen scientist ocean transparency data as a resource for phytoplankton and climate research. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
The oceans' phytoplankton that underpin the marine food chain appear to be changing in abundance due to global climate change. Here, we compare the first four years of data from a citizen science ocean transparency study, conducted by seafarers using ...
