Sensor Capability and Atmospheric Correction in Ocean Colour Remote Sensing [PDF]

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2015
Accurate correction of the corrupting effects of the atmosphere and the water’s surface are essential in order to obtain the optical, biological and biogeochemical properties of the water from satellite-based multi- and hyper-spectral sensors.

Reference solar irradiance spectra and consequences of their disparities in remote sensing of the ocean colour [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2007
Satellite ocean colour missions require a standard extraterrestrial solar irradiance spectrum in the visible and near-infrared (NIR) for use in the process of radiometric calibration, atmospheric correction and normalization of water-leaving radiances

Assessment of Polymer Atmospheric Correction Algorithm for Hyperspectral Remote Sensing Imagery over Coastal Waters

open access: yesSensors, 2021
Spaceborne imaging spectroscopy, also called hyperspectral remote sensing, has shown huge potential to improve current water colour retrievals and, thereby, the monitoring of inland and coastal water ecosystems.

On the observability of internal tidal waves in remotely‐sensed ocean colour data [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2002
This paper reveals bands of enhanced levels of near‐surface chlorophyll in the central Bay of Biscay in remotely‐sensed images from the SeaWiFS ocean colour sensor, and shows that these are most probably associated with the crests of internal tidal waves travelling away from the shelf break.

Advances in the Monitoring of Algal Blooms by Remote Sensing: A Bibliometric Analysis

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Since remote sensing of ocean colour began in 1978, several ocean-colour sensors have been launched to measure ocean properties. These measures have been applied to study water quality, and they specifically can be used to study algal blooms.

A Machine Learning Algorithm for Himawari-8 Total Suspended Solids Retrievals in the Great Barrier Reef

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
Remote sensing of ocean colour has been fundamental to the synoptic-scale monitoring of marine water quality in the Great Barrier Reef (GBR). However, ocean colour sensors onboard low orbit satellites, such as the Sentinel-3 constellation, have ...
