Intensification of Decadal Variability in Sea Surface Salinity in the Western Tropical Pacific
The decadal variability of sea surface salinity (SSS) is crucial for the global water cycle and the climate system. Previous studies have indicated that the SSS in the western tropical Pacific (WTP) Ocean exhibits significant decadal variability, which ...

A fully organic UV threshold dosimeter is developed by exploiting the oxygen‐sensitive room‐temperature phosphorescence of a purely organic emitter in a polymer matrix. Upon reaching a specific cumulative UV dose, photochemical oxygen depletion triggers a sharp, high‐contrast emission.

Barrier Layer Variability in the Central Equatorial Pacific Associated With ENSO Development
Previous studies suggest that a thick barrier layer can strengthen surface warming during El Niño and vice versa for La Niña. Here we find barrier layer changes of up to 6 m in the central equatorial Pacific (CEP, 170°E−160°W, 5°S–5°N) in response to a 1°

Global open-ocean daily turbulent heat flux dataset (1992–2020) from SSM/I via deep learning [PDF]
Air–sea turbulent heat fluxes – latent heat flux (LHF) and sensible heat flux (SHF) – are fundamental to the Earth's energy and moisture budgets and to ocean–atmosphere coupling. Global flux estimates via bulk aerodynamic algorithms depend on sea surface

Negatively charged boron vacancy defects in hexagonal boron nitride promise near‐surface quantum sensing, but their internal spin transition rates are only partly understood. This work directly measures the defect's singlet‐state lifetime, 15(3) ns, using a nanosecond rise‐time dual‐pulse photoluminescence‐recovery method, and shows that high laser ...

A Bayesian optimization framework identifies the ideal composition for Lu2(MoO4)3:Yb–Er–Tm phosphors with minimal experimental trials. By leveraging the host's negative thermal expansion, the material achieves remarkable thermal quenching compensation.
